I started attempting to race about a year ago, it was last winter anyway. I got my B4 not long after the outdoor/summer season ended, so first few times out with it were at indoor regionals, and a couple of rather cold outdoor races at the Bury Metro track.
I haven't seen any improvement in my racing over the last year, I still prefer to call it 'driving my B4 around the track at random' rather than racing, but still it's fun :)

I started on the 1st september 2002 at batley outdoors with a Losi XXX CR that I bought 2nd hand off ebay for playing with in the woods. it was a bit too nice for that so started racing with my lrp quantum pro and lrp phase4 14x2 motor and KO2123 servo!
I collected vintage RC before that, and played with my tamiya mini

Started racing around 1984 or 85 with a Mardave Apache at Blaby buggy club, at one time i raced upto 5 times a week back then as there were a lot in clubs in the area. Had a break for 10 years and started again end of 05. Highlight was winning the 2wd midland championships.
I started April 1990.

I started in '81 with a brand new Tamiya Holiday Buggy... took me nearly 10 years to win my region and did my first National season this year.
I got a little toy RC car from Tandy for Christmas 1997... started racing in 1998... with a Tamiya Madcap and soon after a Schumacher Bosscat. :)
My first full National season was 2004 although I did a couple in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
BUT come August, I'll be taking a year's break because I'm moving my ass to Chile for a year... will hopefully see you all again in 2008!

Blimey! I thought I'd been racing ages but wow, some of you lot have been racing for yonks!
I started racing in 1992 at Tansley off road club using a basic Manta Ray, which eventually got heavily hopped up thanks to Mr Jamie Booth and all his team parts! Stupidly I sold it :eh?: and bought a Yokomo super dogfighter and raced that at worksop for a while.
Then I started racing Formula 1 at Tibshelf and after a good winter series, started doing brca nationals finishing regularly in the top 5. Then F1 vanished and I ended up moving on to Touring Cars.................
...until this year (or is that last lear...oh I'm getting confused) Whan I got chance to review the B4RS and all the memories came flooding back :) along with the fun feeling.
Unfotunately my driving has suffered from 10 odd years of touring cars, but I'll keep trying.;)

This answer will not be good concidering my ability at the moment. I started in 1984 when I was 12 with a Mardave Meteor on friday nights at an indoor track in an old mill in Blackburn then got an optima mid and a cat xls. Stopped racing when I was 17 in 1989 and started again in 1996 doing touring cars and a bit off off road with a B3 a firblade and a xx at southport and did a bit of 8th offroad at pendle. Stopped in 2002 (Divorce) and started again in 2004 with a mardave mini now I have a 2wd 4wd and a touring car just for a laugh till the present day and I am enjoying it more than ever.:D
Well i started racing the 1 of may 1990!
Still remember the night befor the race and how i didnt get any sleep
and i was a nervous wreck :D
Been thrashing 'em about for about 14months now and getting better all the time - just ask Chris Long (he was worried about his ftq last saturday at York...)
p.s. I was having a very rare good day!!:)

Some of the pics you took on Sunday have convinced me that maybe completley bald is the way to go!
Back on topic, I badgered my mum and dad to buy me a Holiday Buggy, Xmas 1980.
Pendle Model Car Club was already running 1/12th Stock cars in a church hall in Nelson Lancashire and they allowed me to run my buggy during the breaks.
Then they saw the light and an off road class was formed summer of 1981.
I had one and a half years off around 1991 whilst I experimented with fertilised hops and water, not to mention women and nightclubs!
Really enjoying my racing now and the social side of regionals, nationals and the recent vintage series.:)
Hey Damo... I was MINUS NINE when you started racing... and 2 when you had your little break.
Does that make you feel old? ;)

Started racing in 1991, competed in Northamptonshire as i didn't even know about regionals etc...
Started 10th Nationals around 97
Was National Truck champion in 97 or 98.
Was pushed out of A main in Belgium 98 by Jukka Steenari.
Was racing with the likes of Lee Martin, Bloomers and Teddy T oh and beating them back then!!!
Dad retired me in 2000, started again 05.
Good thing was back then you had 5-6 clubs in your area, just after i gave up there was 1.
Today you are back up to 4-5,
started in 1989, second hand Kyosho Rocky, hung me thumbs up at the end of 1997, 98, realised I shouldn't of sold it all, and couldn't afford it then, 2003, could, did, and am happy.

Started in Jan 1993 with a Tamiya Astute (that car was rubbish!!), then quit about 2 months later. Started again in the November that year with a Bosscat. Later on got the Cat 2000, then the Cat EC conversion kit. December 1995 got the RC10B2 then quit in April 1997.
Started up again June 2006

Watch out, here's another old fart:-
Started racing in 1983 with a Tamiya Holiday Buggy, which was quickly replaced with a Tamiya Wild One. Raced at the Bolton club on the old bowling green behind the pub (Queens Head?). A very young Craig Drescher was almost unbeatable round that track. Around 1985 changed to a Tamiya Hotshot and started racing at the Bury club, then located at Radcliffe FC. Was lucky enough to receive backing from the now disappeared Bury Model Shop, and campaigned a variety of Optima's, Mid Optima's, Cat's and Dogfighter's up to 1989, when I gave up r/c racing to go and race full sized cars.
Came back in 2003 when my eldest son fancied a go. I have raced for the last three years, but have hung up my transmitter for 2007 so as to concentrate on preparing my son's car, and helping Roger & Woody with the running of Bury Metro club.
When I came back in 2003 I could not believe how fast the cars were, when I quit in 1989 we were using 1700 nicd and 27x1 motors (who remembers the classic Demon red dot motors?)

I started in about 1986 with a Hotshot, I raced until early 1990 having a couple of xls cats and an optima mid in that time. I even bought a topcat just before I quit, not a car often seen these days. I raced at Batley and Halifax (yes they did used to run off road too) and occasionally at Aire valley.
I then got back into it again around the same time as Jimmy, mid to late 2002 initially with a touring car, but I think within about 4 weeks I had a buggy again:)

I started in 92 at 10 Years old, just racing a Tamiya Madcap at a local club indoors....
My Dad was always into motorsport, so quickly got into it and realised there was a LOT more to it and managed to get a 2nd hand Optima Mid which I started racing outdoors, then went on and on from there!
I actually stopped in Feb 2002 before the season started and have only this past few months picked up some radio gear and an old B3 - only raced twice mind...... but it's been fun getting involved again and catching up on everything i've missed!
Still a lot of the same faces as when i packed up so it's been good really, and having kept friendly with LeeM all these years has helped keep me up to speed to some degree......
It is funny, the amount of names that crop up from the old RRCi series of the mid 90's.

Hi Nick,
You confused me being called 'Col' ha ha.
I don't remember exactly, but it must have been '88 or '89. But shortly after that I took a 5-year sabbatical to go race R/C speed boats, started again in '95. Do I qualify as an 'Old Fart'?

Started around 1984 with a Tamiya Frog, soon progressed onto one of the first RC10's in 85 did some of the RRC series with that and also had a Tamiya Boomerang to race in the Tamiya Challenge back in the mid eighties. lots of club racing at Worlds end Pub (Northampton) and Ryton(Coventry)
Then had a Cat XL in about 87 but around that time I also got a real motorbike and that was the end of RC cars until the start of last year.

Started in '98 I think with a touring car, did a few nationals in 2001/2002/2003, started 12th circuit in 2003, my first race with one was at the MK national, got my F2 at the next meeting at South Shields. 2004/2005 was spent doing 12th nationals culiminating in going to the Euros in 2005 in Holland. Took a break from racing in Summer 2005 when I ran out of funding and my dad wanted to get into drag racing. Winter 2005 I bought a Losi BK2 and got into off road... did off road over the winter and summer. Bought another 12th scale to do the TRCC national and after a year out I managed to come 16th (my best result), then i'm as I am now - 2wd off road, somewhere rubbish in the regional series!
Did some Racing in the 80's at Stockton Buggy Club.
My first car was a Tamiya Striker but by the time i raced at the club i had a Tamiya Super Sabre.. Then quit after a very short period when parents wouldn't give me no funding. Starting back racing again in 2002 i think.
Hi Nick,
You confused me being called 'Col' ha ha.
You should try it from my side... My mother and my work call me Nick, everyone else calls me Col. Somethimes I think that I'm schtzo, skit, sch... twin personality!

Started racing at Bury Metro in 1997 with a Tamiya Grasshopper, which led to an original RC10 with the nitted bath tub chassis.
Quit outdoor when the rostrum got burnt down, and went to touring cars.
Started offroad again in 2001-2003 then called it a day due to lack of funds.
now im back for the 2007 season with new car and new equipment :)

Started way back in June 1979, in the days when you had to get a Model Control licence from the Home Office (cost £2.80 for a 5 year licence) to legally use your radio control equipment.
Remember 3 speed mechanical speed controllers that had wire resistors that glowed like an electric fire when you hit the throttle, ball diffs hadn't been invented and all bodies were ABS plastic that split so easily.
I'll stop now otherwise I'll get all melancholy and dewy-eyed!
I think I started racing late 2003-early 2004 with a Traxxas bandit, and an old time dial based charger. Started racing competitivly late 2005, but my best results were from the 2006 racing season down here (Australia).

Throughly enjoying the new challenge.

well i started playing with cars when i was about 4 and started racing in about 1987ish at the cov track when it was at Ryton, also raced at Bedworth, GEC and Alcester when they used to race at Ragley hall. Raced until 1997ish when i stopped to concentrate on athletics then made a return back into the sport at the end of 2003 and wished i hadn't stopped as now i seam to be struggleing to get back to where i used to be but guess thats due to the fact that there doesn't seam to be as many club meetings about now so most of my racing seams to be at regionals during the summer.

I started racing in february 1994. Just after my 7th birthday. I raced at Marston Model Car Club at their indoor venue- Pendeford High School in Wolverhampton. I began with a Schumacher Club 10 (like a cougar 2 but more basic) and after a few months got into 4wd full time with a CAT 2000. Back then, Rob (Bert Digler on here) was my hero, he was rapid, one of the kings of the club meets. :-D
Took a big step forward in 1997 when I made my 1st mid-west regional A final aged 10 at the Telford Hot Trax venue, won the under 13 title, and about a season later got my 1st sponsor in CML... and things have just continued... still love it now, dad still gets stressed and I've made a lot of good friends from the sport. If you've just started you're in for a lot of fun and good times!!

I started in 1990 with a Tamiya Kingcab I got for my 8th birthday. I still remember my first bod moment, first corner on the first lap of my first race - straight on at the end of the straight into the wall trying to keep up with everyone else (line starts in qually back then), snapped chassis :p

I started in 1986 with a Tamiya Falcon. Was one of the first 12 members of Shrewsbury South Radio Controlled Car Club (SSRCCC). Moved onto a Hotshot II and then a Super dog fighter. Went 2WD with a Schumacher Top Cat (pile of poo) and then gave up due to lack of funds and because i wanted to fill my Fiesta with Kenwood ICE.
Started again three years ago with a 2nd hand B3/Tekin Radio/old Batteries and Ranger Radio gear (just to see if I liked it again). Could not race at Shrewsbury because the track it is now a housing estate so went to Oswestry offering Jeff Stanton some RC2400 cells as a bribe. 5 months later I had my B4, 3300 cells, Ko radio and Quantum II ESC and was made Club Secretary. I also run the club website and have started Stormforce racing to sell cells in between racing and real work. You could say i am hooked again :)

First Rc Car was a Tamiya Boomerang about 18 years ago. Then got a Kyosho Optima Mid. Raced at Local events around the west Mids. Parents decided to emigrate to OZ when i was 16. Took all my RC kit there . Saved up and bought a Pro cat. Had it for only four days. Some thieving scumbag stole it along with some household stuff from our house. Only raced it once.
Couldn't afford to buy a another one. Decided to give up. Returned back to the UK after 12 months.
Got hooked on rallying due to me brother who has co#driven for some of the UK'S top National Rally Drivers and he has worked for some of the Works teams and i have been to many test sessions and been fortunate to be a passenger and sit next to some factory supported works rally drivers in very expensive and top notch rally cars. Lost interest at the moment with rallying and it's ruling body. Spoiling the sport and turning it into F1.
Big fan of Colin Mcrae
3 years ago got the bug to return to RC Racing and looking forward to racing in 07.

First post might as well be "historic"-I first raced in about 1980 aged 11 or 12.Raced with Batley buggy club behind a pub when pretty much everyone drove Tamiyas! Was sponsored by my Dad which amounted to a Tamiya Sandrover with a 380 motor which I unsurprisingly ran into the ground. Also raced indoors at Batley sports centre when the pits used to be outside the hall in the corridor.Only real claim to fame was my massive self-built pitbox which housed all my gear-everyone laughed to see me try and carry it. Good times and I'm more than happy to return to the scene.

started racing origianally around 1988 ish with my local club being leicester, started with a tamiya hornet, then went on to a mardave metor fairly soon after , then went onto a schumacher top cat & cougar before finishing with the bath tub rc10's runing in the midlands rounds and rrc series and even entered th British Pairs championship race held in Leicester( chris d may remember that one ??) and then stopped racing around 1992 just to come back again sept 2006 so lookin forward to this season..
Thought I would join in!
Started messing about with a Tamiya Sandscorcher and Sandrover at about the age of 10 back in 83, we used to go to a school blackheath way and race, I started to race properly about 85 at Dudley with a Boomerang and then doing the Mid Champs with an Optima Mid Turbo, and then with persuasion from Mr Willetts I ran a Cat XLS, Parma Wide Chassis cat, then Pro Cat until I took a long break at the age of 17 and didn't race again till 25ish.
Never really done much results wise, had a few regional A's and A at the F3's just enjoy the racing and friends :)

10th off-road 2 & 4wd = 4wd Veterans Champ 05 :)
2wd Veterans Vice Champ 06 :(
12th Circuit = 2003/4 F3 champion in 1st season :(
TRCC summer Champion 2005 (I think):)
also use a RC10T4 & 18T @ club for fun
I started racing back in 1992, i was 10.
i started with a cougar 2 and within 2 years i qualified for the junior regional finals. Mr Cragg won!!
The next year i went on road and have done so up until last october, during this time i have never won a national meeting:( i have been second a few times though:D
Schumacher took me to germany for the LRP TCM a few years ago.
Now i have the off road bug again and im enjoying my racing again and learning how to drive in 3D.

haha, my dad made me one, when I came to buy a proper car carrier, we tried to give it away, nobody asked for it lol.
It was qaulity, even had a built in fan and draw for tools.
My claim to fame is 7th in the A Final (stock) at the British Carpet Grand Prix.
(There was only one stock final :D, and I came last, but i was 4th for most of the race till my FT TC4 broke) :D
My other claim to fame is the veloc2, its awesome.
Although it may get a new name and a shortning by 4cm lol

Surname is Farrer.
And yeah it was the leicester one, i think mr doughty won the under 16`s section as well in 2wd.

Aha yes i was at that one too (also born in 82) - that was my first "National" event but i only did 4wd at the time.
Richard (Tricky) Taylor actually won both U13 events (2&4wd) and Chris won certainly one of the U16's. I finished 2nd to Tricky in U13 4wd.
What a small world :D
Sorry i didnt mean to steal trickys thunder:D
It was my first national too, i think i ended up in the c overall which i was quite happy with.
In a way i wish i never went to TC as i have learned since coming back to off road that it is so much harder than on road.
Aged 15 in 1986 with a Tamiya Hornet at the very beginning of FORCC.
Moved onto a Kyosho Optima with my first paypacket when I left school at 16.
Since then I've had Cat XLS, ProCat, Lazer ZXR, MX4, Losi XX4, MR4BC, XXX, B4 and now it's a Kyosho ZX5 with KMC conversion.
In that time I've also raced Pro 10, Mardave Mini's and Marauder's, and now I also compete in Mardave Banger Racing at the Basildon club.
Oh - and I've dabbled at full size banger racing too :)

First raced in 1989 at Lawford Buggy Club (still going!). We raced Tamiya 'Quick Drives' which were RTR style 1:12th scale off road buggys. Totally naff, BUT it got me and quite a few others hooked. Had a few breaks since to chase women, etc. but enjoying my racing as much as ever. At Lawford Buggy Club there are a good 6 - 10 drivers still racing who started back with me in 1989, not bad eh?
I could get very nostalgic but will save you the rambling prose..
well i started just before jan 2007 attending one supercup at bately where i cam 2nd to last (to vicky :D ) but i first got into rc cars at about 7 when my gran bought me a storm buggy from argos. that was really fast at my age  but was probably equivalent to a mouse. literally! i drove that into the local reservoir.....my mum put over the radiator but it never fixed......:(

Well you could class me as an old-school Aussie racer.
I started back in 1984 with a Marui Hunter, then followed many years of mainly off-road with some 1/12th with more different cars than you can imagine until I finally took a break in 2001 to settle down with family etc.
Returned properly in 2004 in Touring cars and have now just returned to my off-road roots - still struggling to remember how to do the jumps and bumps
I am also a vintage collector which ensures than I'm constantly poor!!
My claim to fame is making 4 National A-Mains (in Oz the Nationals are a once-a-year event) and finishing in the top 3 on 3 occasions in my State championships.
Unfortunately I have rather less talent nowadays :( but at least I'm still having fun.

Started in 1992 with a Tamiya Terra Scorcher at South Shields model car club, with a Joel Magic Johnson stock motor and tamiya 1200s.
I then went to a Lazer ZXR mk2 and experienced my first ever modified motor – scary stuff at the time as I couldn’t get used to it just keeping accelerating, a CAT EC sport and XX4, (all raced on slippy school hall floors) at South Shields and Durham (Belmont).
I stopped racing in 1999 when I went to uni, returned to touring car racing with a Yokomo then an Axis 2 (which is still my favoured TC) in 2003 / 4.
Got back into buggy properly in 2005 (first proper regional series) with my B4 which was used for bashing before this. In 2006 I wanted to do 4WD and 2WD, and started with my old CAT EC and B4, then a Lazer ZX-5, then an X factory X-5, all in 2006. Got my F3 license, and went to the regional finals.
Just had my first regional of 2007 where I made my first A final in the NE regionals with my old B4. And after all my 4WDs in 2006, Im back to a CAT 2000 EC for 2007.

Not a lot of mention in here, Started racing in 1998 with a SST pro touring car raced that for a few years untill I got a spin in a buggy.
Mostly my racing has been on polished wooden floors with the occasional tarmac race with the touring cars. Starting this year to try my hand at racing my off-road buggy off-road (:o) looking forward to it.

I started in 1998 racing touring cars indoors with a tamiya TL-01. It didnt take long before I started to upgrade like mad with my saturday job and paper-round as my funding. I still race touring cars every so often but im taking a short break out to give this off road game a go. This is my first year racing the buggies and im loving every minute of it and im even giving the East of England reginals a bash
