Havent seen a gallery here so thought I might start one.

Heres mine.
Started with a stock Madrat Im sure you are all familar with it but will post a pic anyway, with an ezrun combo + HK controller

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c338/simonandhanna/DSC00423.jpg

Now I have a Team C TC02/ X-PRO tekin motor HK esc but looking for a better one (as it doesn't really fit, let me know if you have one available) and have a spektrum DX3E TX/RX
35W oil
Kyosho yellow springs
3A/3B piston
KO PS-2113 from tyreman thanks

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c338/simonandhanna/73685111.jpg

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c338/simonandhanna/DSC00473.jpg

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c338/simonandhanna/DSC00472.jpg

What do you think about the mounting of the esc?? Its the only place I can put it as its too big for the right hand side

Im waiting for panther slicks for the car so I can drive it like I stole it at our carpet track at the local

I had an extra green original body was going to paint it black but that ran out so it became red. going to have black windows later

nothing special, just the old tank of a Master Smacker i used for the Ardent winter series, not expecting to win much with it but my aim is just to not come last. Fitted with 9t /35a ezrun system (was contemplating a 5.5/60a system), basic Futaba S3004 servo & the competition regulation mini-pin tyres on Fastrax rims (the only ones i could get to fit because of the off-set) with blue inserts, running Spektrum DX3S radio gear.

The only other changes i made were i fitted an ARE-1 spur gear (2 teeth less) because i stripped the kit one during the 1st run - (tip: don't follow the manual when meshing, put the top deck on before meshing the spur), plus i fitted a Tamiya pinion because the kit one weighs a fair bit & i've also changed the shock oil to Schumacher 30wt & fitted rubber collars inside the dampers on the shock-shaft to limit the travel to help with landing & to stop squat when i nail the throttle. I also tried springs on the rear from the Tamiya kit shocks of my DF-02 buggy. the kit springs really need to be softer as there is a lot of rebound as you land the car off a big jump, but it's just finding ones that will fit.
Plus a few changes to what the manual suggested were fitting the steering with pivot balls from the ARE-1 kit which aren't shouldered otherwise if you use the ones from the kit with the shouldered pivots, the steering linkage fouls & limits the travel.

will post a pic of the Mad-rat i've recently got when i get round to building it. I also have an Ansmann ARE-1 touring car but i won't bore you with that. ;)

Looking good mate. To be honest you don't need a cooling fan on your esc when running 2wd. If you removed the fan would it fit on the RHS? should then give a lower C of G and more even weight distribution.

OneKiwi
18-01-2011, 06:58 PM
Thats what I was thinking but it being a hobbyking esc and the fact that I burt a 35A $15 dollar (http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11742) one after 2 runs around the track.

This esc is not much better I think being a 60A $30 one (http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11743).

If I did remove the fan I think the rx and switch connectors might rub but those I can solder in place ( Thats an idea)

Ill test it as it is tomorrow at the track and ask a couple others there but would like feedback from others about not needing a fan. Not that I don't trust ya Chris just nice with more input

What motor were you running on that speedo to blow it? I know very few people who attach a fan to their 2wd speedo as overheating is rarely an issue. If it is then cutting a couple of vent holes in the shell often works - quite common in 4wd cars.

Im running a Tekin Redline 278 (http://www.fusionhobbies.com/Team-Tekin-Redline-278-Sensorless-Brushless-Motor-p/tk1259.htm) looking at the specs I think it maybe a little too fast with 2,5T 7800Kv

nice.. ^^what was /is he running in that? what mag was that from?

Thats taken from the 30th anniversary edition of radio race car international (february edition) Availiable from all good newsagents. Well in the UK anyways. :lol: I came fifth in the open class at the players 2010(although i could have been on the podium if it had not been for a breakage when trying to overtake open class champion Andy pearson :cry: Still it has to be said that was the best, most intense race I have had in a long time)

In the photos is what I am pretty much running today. The car was kit standard apart from a slight mod on the back end to get more anti-squat. Electrics wise it has a savox servo, LRP SPX (I usually run a Nosram but I left it in my spare car) LRP X12 6.5(Which is a bit hot for 2wd but it is the only 6.5 I have :lol:) and my trusty two year old team orion 4800s.

Only things I have changed since then are I am running 30 degree alloy caster blocks on the front and also a rubebits (http://www.rudebits.co.uk/) under servo weight. The X-pro was excellent at the weekend and was the only rear mounted 2wd car in the A final at West bridgford I think.

Here is a few pics of my Madrat. Got the kit for Xmas and since then I have done a few upgrades namely

associated alloy shocks
ball raced
upgraded turnbuckles
17t schaumacher goldrush brushed motor
24tooth pinion
front staggered rib yet to fit.

Not too keen on the madrat shell so opted for something a bit different...

Just finished painting my first ever bodyshell. Its a proline bulldog shell for a b4.1. I know its not everyones cup of tea but I love the shape of it. Had to cut and trim away some shell to get it to fit.

Ive ran it at Torch racing club 3 times now and it goes very well considering its a budget buggy. It has stood upto a few crashes but amazingly is still in one peace. Diff is still fine as well:o.

Planning to upgrade to brushless soon once I get competent with the track.

A fantastic little car and great value for money.

Hi Ben,

I'm still finding my way around buggies, as it been a fair few years since I last raced one. The Kyosho springs on the front seem a little better than the kit springs.....still LOADS more testing/running to do before I find a set up suitable for my driving style ;)

Interesting slipper arrnagement you have on there tom? Is that a Losi spring and slipper plate?

Also it looks like you big bores are catching on the front turnbuckle. Is it affecting the handling?

Tom3012
15-02-2011, 06:07 PM
Its the ansmann plates but with what i think is a team mod that losi drivers used to use on the xxx, it helps to 'spread' the load of the spring... I find it easier to adjust than the ansmann one... The springs rub a very small amount but dont touch the shock body at all so no problems...

One thing i have noticed is that under full compression the left drive shaft touches the diff screw, meaning it stops the shock from bottoming out like on the other side, do people file these down??

yeah check if there is any thread sticking through the diff nut, if so dremal it down to the top of the nut this should allow full movement of the suspension.

I think they are 3 racing shocks. They are the first version and 3 racing now do version 2. They are available at rcmart in Hong Kong.

Hi Tom,
Care to share s.Some details on the slipper of the car in the second picture?
Thanks:thumbsup:

Its a losi item, im not 100% sure but i have been told by others that it was a mod used back in the days of the xxx. Basically it helps to spread the load of the spring more evenly through the slipper plate giving a more consistant adjustment... So i believe anyway! Hope that helps!

If people would be interested i could look into get some made up...

yer, had a spair set,used losi bearings in the hubs, just have to shim the shaft on the inside of the hub to make sure you have enough in the drive cup on full droop (or it can come out:blush:) , then use assosiated rollpins and the original ansmann wheel addapter, reemed to fit the losi shaft. as i said I didn' think the original parts were sub standard, just want to limit the amount of wheels i need to have:thumbsup: as 22 is my main car

I stripped the rear end to rebuild the diff etc and noticed that if i swapped the rear arms left to right it lengthens the wheel base slightly. With the hype about lengthened wheel bases on the B4.1 at the moment i posted up to see who might have done this before. Turns out a couple have and it is much more stable on high grip surfaces. I have only ever run it on Astro, and the first time tomorrow with the shocks at the front of the tower, so fingers croseed :thumbsup:

What reciever is in your X2C ? It must be tiny in order to fit lengthways in the chassis like that. The Ansmann W5 reciever of mine measures 22mm x 35mm & that won't fit the way round yours is.

Nice neat installation there.

Should be ok, if i measure 150mm forwards from the senser plug on the motor it comes to the middle of the servo. Just depends how you want to route it i guess.

Just finished my X2C. The body art is a tribute to the Gulf Ford GT40 Mk I, winner of the 24 hours of Le Mans (the first of the "Gulf" GT40 to win the race). I've used many hop up items: FULL OPTION Super Duty rear shock tower, ATOMIC CARBON front shock tower, TEAM C kevlar front chassis, diff gear and 80T spur gear, TEAM C 28T POM Gear, TEAM C alu front castle block and rear brace mount, BFAST full differential system, AR alu hex hub and turnbuckle set, TEAM ASSOCIATED front and rear factory team shocks with silver springs, SCHUMACHER Mini Spike Yellow front (dremeled) and rear tyres, all the screws are from HEXCREWS (HexHeads High Strenght). For the electronics I use an AR Xirius Race brushless set (10T), a VAMPIRE RACING 40C 4400 saddle pack and a SAVOX SC-1251MG low profile servo.
This week end my X2C will hit the race track for the first practice sessions!!!!

To Dapanz

Those Gulf Colours look absolutely amazing and the fact that you got gulf stickers makes it even better. where did you get them from and what are the exact colours for the orange and blue

To deano261

for the gulf stickers (logos & stripes) you can find'em on ebay uk item 150467098979 (from screenprintdigital), while the difficult part was finding the right blue. I mixed Tamiya PS-1 (white) with PS-3 (light blue) till I found the correct shade of blue.
I hope it helped

Specs:
Motor: LRP Blast S10 23T sealed can brushed;
ESC: Novak GTS;
Servo: BMS-617MG+HS super fast servo (Mos-FET) for competition 6.8kg / .10sec / 46g
Batteries: Zippy 4000mah 20-30C or Turnigy Nano-Tech 5300 30-60C;
Rear tyres: Pro-Line M3 caliber;
Front tyres: Jconcepts slim Barcode (blue compound);
Wheels: Ansmann aftermarket yellow rims

Tuning:
Caster racing SK10 buggy shocks with soft (blue) springs;
Steel adjustable turnbuckles;
Ceramic diff balls;
