I really like that Julian. Looks very cool, the lights are good too and I like the fact you've put the detail into the front to make some extra shading on there.

When you're back Fluoro colours get the white nice and even then dust over it with a silver, that should make it completely opaque so you don't get anything else coming through. You could always mask it up real quick with paper tape once the colours are nice and dry, that would eliminate it too, a lot more work than just putting some silver through the gun though.

Cheers for the advice. It's been a loooong day. I had nightmares with Fasmask put on way too thin. Had to more or less scrape off the mask from the pinstripes on this one (see latest pics). Had to build up the black shading more than I wanted to hide some static marks. Can't wait for the prep to arrive from Jon!!!

Going to try applying with a brush/sponge in the meantime as a test, and see if the issue goes away.

Finally to add insult to injury, I went out to the garage and cranked up my venerable old Roland Camm 1, to find that the ancient PC running it refused to boot - hard drive knackered. Luckily being an ex-I.T. man, I had a back-up of all the work and a duplicate of the drive on another PC, so was able to do a little juggling to fix the prob.

A lot of work to get some fresh headlight masks.....sheesh..!

Here's the pics. Can't take credit for the design, its based on one of Luke Hobsons, - I see Ginga has just done a few new ones for him. I bottled it and left most of the black shading off given the issues with static I seem to be suffering at present...

cheers

looks good bud - everyones orders going out tomorrow when the posty opens back up

gingapaint 03-01-2012 07:55 AM

Hi Ju, they look great! I didn't design Luke's either, he came to me with the design and I just fiddled around with it.
For fading into white, get some RCS body prep from Jon, it eliminates the static. I've no idea how it works, but the difference is night and day. :D

U1timate PigDog 03-01-2012 08:03 AM

Looks brilliant, simple but really effective, they always look better that way and what a job you've done, I think he could race in the dark with this one .

On a note with the pinstripes, I sometimes do them first, especially if there really thin ones, as paint builds up a little and makes them harder to lift out the mask clean. If there silver just make sure you get enough of it on so the following colours do bleed through and if using any other colour just giving a good backing of white then silver..

top job tho:thumbsup:

Haha I didn't even see your 2nd body post and thought I'd gone crazy when the picture looked different after posting LOL,

However this one looks good as well, good work and keep it up

julianb 04-01-2012 11:00 PM

Jeez, I never even considered doing the pinstripes first. What a cracking idea. I'll certainly give it a try on the next shells - I have some fiddly buggy shells coming up next that might benefit from giving it a try. Cheers!

Just finished this P37 for a clubmate. The brief was black red and yellow. Wanted to avoid the whole German Flag looky likey thing, so tried some charcoal instead of black, and a little dust of silver around the edges. A few RCS Cog stencils for detail and some chrome around the lights. Also tried doing the pinstriping first before the paint got thick. Cheers Ian - what a great idea!!!

Hope my fellow racer likes it... eeek!!!!!

U1timate PigDog 17-01-2012 07:52 AM

Top Job looks real nice, I like the colours and the charcoal looks better than plain black (nice touch), only thing to thing about is that hrome tends to lift alot easier than other paint so just be careful if you put that down and laying others on top.

Super nice work though, I really like it, I think because it looks fast lol

eyeayen 17-01-2012 10:12 AM

Looks good ! Good lines and shapes.

I can't take any of the credit for the pin striping thing - Graham who has posted above me mentioned it

Here's the latest, finished in the nick of time for Louth's 1st Carpet Rd.

As usual the camera fails to convey the fluorescent yellow and green, the hot rod sparkle shows up well though!!!

Hope you like it Sam!!!

U1timate PigDog 28-01-2012 06:25 PM

Looking good!!!! Love the sparkle and great all round work, looks very nice

julianb 28-01-2012 08:34 PM

Cheers,

As always the pics don't do it justice, far brighter and more contrasty in the flesh than the images give credit.

I used Parma Fasmask on this one, and still didn't get it thick enough!!! Four or Five coats next time ;-)

The colours were;- Createx Fluoro green and yellow, Auto Air Hot Rod Sparkle, Flame Red and Deep Purple (for the shadows), Faskolor Satin Chrome for the window frames and Fastrax Chrome aerosol for the pinstriping. Quite a mixture!!!

cheers

Got these finished at some ungodly hour on Friday morning. Matching pair, one for carpet, the other for our local club nights on polished wood. Bet I know which will last the longest.... ;-)

As usual the camera doesn't capture the radioactive green-yellow fade:thumbsup:

cheers

Quick turnaround for Rich Drury, (well, for me anyway lol !)

Tried to match n existing Kifopaint shell. Close, but not quite. Had to modify the design a touch to sit nicely on the new shape shell. The orange fade is little too heavy and the dark blue is very slightly different, the original maybe a Candy of some sort, not really sure.

Anyway, it's clean and tidy and back to it's owner in the morning. Hope you like it mate!!!

U1timate PigDog 11-03-2012 07:37 AM

Thats a great paint job, I prefer the stronger orange (looks more fiery :D) and I like the little extra touches on the design, I'm sure he will be well happy with that (Kifo didnt do too bad the first time either lol)

Steveonamission 11-03-2012 03:07 PM

Nice to see you posting your talent again Julian, looking smart like all your work. :)

julianb 11-03-2012 06:39 PM

Cheers chaps,

not much room to work in these little shells after a diet of touring cars!!!!

Enjoying the change though :)

eyeayen 11-03-2012 09:36 PM

I think you did a very good job of replicating a design and tweaking it to fit the new shell shape, to say "close but not quite", I think you're being a little hard on yourself, looks really good !

I'm mainly used to 8th shells and previously a long time ago Touring cars so yeah the 10th buggies are extremely small, always a good challenge though !

julianb 12-03-2012 10:30 PM

Yep, these latest cab forward buggy shells - smaller and uglier!

Rich D 17-03-2012 02:34 PM

Cheers for doing such a good job so quickly Jules. Really pleased
