The rerelease diff is mounted on 10x15 bearings, while the original uses 8x14mm, so to mount the new parts in an original gear case would mean finding some 10 x 14 bearings, which as far as I know do not exist.

The only way you can upgrade the gears is to replace the complete gearboxes including the gear cases.

Look at the picture on the pages and search other sites for the T02099 bearing. The bearing is actually 10x15x4, not 10x14x4.

The only way to get the diff in an original gearbox is to turn down the shoulders on the diff itself so you can fit the 8x14mm bearings on the diff.

Just to bring some life back into this topic!
Can anyone suggest some suitable 2.2" wheels for modern tyres please?

Also after some idea of gearing for a 10.5 and what parts people have broken so far!
Thanks :)

I use the fastrax 6 spoke ready built wheels and tyres which seem to look pretty good (sure there is a photo of mine somewhere in this thread). I run a 10.5 which is fine, but I can't keep the front wheels on the ground:lol:

Nothing broken

(The pic I've attached is actually my original optima, but you can still see the fastrax wheels on it

Aha thank you, that's perfect, thought they might fit (I had those on a mid a couple of years back but couldn't remember where I got them from!)

What sort of gearing do you run?

There is two of us using the optima in our club , I can recommend the above wheels they work well and the offset is perfect another plus is they are really cheap. No breakages so far and I do run mine fairly hard with an 8.5 t brushless with the kit spur and pinion. . So much fun on damp grass track:thumbsup:

Thank you, wheels are on order now!
But an 8.5!!
I assume you've not built it with the chain then?!

Yes belt fitted 8.5 speed passion with the R esc no timing so not the most powerful set up but nice and quick . Also using the Pro shell and under tray . To be honest it is a really fun capable little car its kind of like driving a 2wd with loads of grip, I love it .

just another thing, I know the photo shows wider rears, but on my runner I use the slightly narrower "fronts" all round

Hi Pete, I'm running mine belt drive, with a 10.5 and a bit of turbo, 25t pinion but on mid wheels and tyres. Haven't run it on 2.2's yet though. Like Andrew above i'm using the optima pro body and under tray to keep the rubbish out.
No breakages but loads of fun!!

Cool, thanks guys
