Tamiya TRF211XM Low Rider Build.

Hi all,

I will be building a New TRF211XM Low Rider with Yokomo YZ2 gearbox and all TRF Hop-Ups.

I have been working on the White Chassis with gloves on....:). I have drilled and countersunk the chassis ready for the YZ2 Low Rider gearbox. The chassis needed very slightly modifying, but nothing too dramatic. I will show pictures of what I have done and needed to do to the chassis.

I have been collecting all the New in Packet Yokomo YZ2 parts for the build, so will list these to help anyone who would like to build one.

I have a New in box TRF211XM, but cant have it until that fat red bloke comes with the fluffy white beard... ( The Wife ).....

I will be using the RB6.6 Blade body on the build....

I did this to my TRF201 XMW and it drives fantastic, so want to try it on the TRF211XM..........

I will post pictures soon.................

GearBox Parts YZ2-4Gear

After using the 4-gear YZ2 Gearbox on my TRF201 XMW Low Rider, I have decided to use it again. The way it ran was perfect for my driving style, so will be using it again for this build.

The 4-Gear motor plate also allows for the support to the chassis to aid strength and protect the gearbox.

So here is the list of YZ2 Parts I will be using........

Z2-304 Motor Plate 4-gear
Z2-018 Rear Tower
Z2-303 Idler Shafts x2
Z2-503 Idler Gear x2
Z2-302 4-Gear Gearbox
Z2-303TA LayShaft
Z2-670VP Slipper Plate x2
Z2-018M Water Fall and Parts
Z2-018M2 Worlds Water Fall
B2-670S Slipper Spring
Z2-001W Wing Mounts
Z2-300RUW Alloy Ballstud Mount (rear).
Alloy Brace from Motor Plate to Chassis.

I will also be using the RDRP Drilled Spur Gear 78t.

Also to mention as well, the Diffs (Ball & Gear) from the TRF211XM Kit will fit the YZ2 Gearbox with 0.5 shims either side with the correct amount of side to side movement due to being slightly narrower than the YZ2 Diffs. TRF diffs will be used..

Hope that helps....

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

WHITE Chassis......

4 Attachment(s)
I managed to get a brand New White chassis along with the conversion kit for a TRF201XMW to TRF211XM.

I purchased this as I did not want to reck the full blown TRF211XM Kit Chassis if it didn't work out.

After close inspection of this White Chassis, its became clear how thin and what a LCG this chassis has. All the pre-holed/countersunk holes by Tamiya have been reinforced/built up around each hole and mounting point.

This is something you need to take care of if you are going to attempt to drill and countersink it.

I have managed to drill and countersink what I needed to and have cut down the rear posts where the motor plate will fit. I cut both to match, but you just need to remove the side the pinion fits dependant on 3 or 4 gear.

I have fitted a clear Fredrik chassis protector and trimmed.

X2 Holes drilled just in front of the rear hinge pin mount either side the support T
X2 Holes drilled for the Water Fall
X2 Holes drilled for the motor plate brace

Chassis already for the build..............

Gearbox Build

6 Attachment(s)
So managed to start the TRF211XM LR Today.

First is the gearbox. I have used the TRF Alloy blue plate for the geardiff, light weight outdrives, orange seals.

I have also fitted the YZ2 Option parts with the light weight slipper plates, RDRP Spur gear and TRF Blues screws.......

Wondered how soon you would get back to this, having finished the RC10...!
Do you never take a break, even at Christmas..!
Hope you had a good one..

xfactor 27-12-2018 02:30 PM

We all need a Christmas build or two Aire, come on.........:D:D

Gearbox to Chassis

5 Attachment(s)
With the TRF211XM Kit you get the brass XA 15g rear inner hinge pin mount. I have gone for the standard alloy XA for now, then will try the brass XA to see the difference.

The gearbox fitted perfect. You will notice I have fitted 2mm washers under the chassis brace to gain the correct level due to the chassis being LCG.

Water Fall

5 Attachment(s)
After testing the different water falls by Yokomo. I preferred the Worlds cut down water fall so have installed this option.

I also went for the Yokomo YZ2 Optional Alloy Ball stud mount. I will need to contact COBRA RACING for the alloy rear block I had them make me for the TRF201XMW to fit where the weight would fit on the rear centre of the ball stud mount.......

Ball stud mount, wishbones, hinge pin mount

5 Attachment(s)
I went for the High Traction rear wishbones as I prefer how they handle compared to the kit rears. Also a added bonus is they are pre-dremelled for the outdrive and have mounting holes for the shocks both sides.

I have removed 2mm on the front of the wishbone and added a 2mm blue washer to the rear of the wishbone to shorten the wheel base slightly.

The rear hinge pin mount and anti-squat washer needed about 3mm-4mm filing down as not to hit the gearbox screws, nothing major at all.

Driveshafts, turnbuckles and hubs

4 Attachment(s)
I have gone for the double roller driveshafts, blue TRF TI Turnbuckles and have fitted the 1.0 degree rear alloy hubs.

Yokomo wing mounts (big improvement over the TAMIYA versions) and EXOTEK Wing buttons.....

Front end, Brass pivot block, TRF turnbuckles

5 Attachment(s)
So with the rear complete bar the shocks, front end then.

I have fitted the 0 degree Brass front pivot block. Very hard to get now as all I could find was 5 degree. But managed to find one in the end....:)

Again TRF Blue TI turnbuckles and the front end went together very well.

Now its starting to look like a TRF buggy..............:D

3 Attachment(s)
Built up the TRF Big Bores and fitted, LMR Wing fitted with light blue Exotek wing washers.

I modified a TRF Carbon Battery strap and had it re-made at fibre-lyte.

I also went for the MuchMore V2 FLETA.......

:o:o:o

What !!! I used to like you Aire...:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Just shows how forward TRF was with the coatings and easy maintenance of working on buggies.

Take the 4wd TRF511.

4 screws and the diffs out front
4 screws and the centre slippers out
4 screws and the rear diffs out including front and rear belts

This was back in 2009 ish..............:o

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

That really does look absolutely stunning!

Aire valley 31-12-2018 09:52 PM

Seriously though....! you're quite right Mark they were very well designed in their day...just pointing out that they look very similar to the current cars....B6, YZ2, etc..which just proves the point.
Keep up the good work...and a happy, successful New Year...
Alan...

Happy New Year to you Alan.............:thumbsup:

Should have it complete over the next few days, including the body all painted if I get chance........:)

Electrics

5 Attachment(s)
I have managed to install the electrics now.

MuchMore V2 FLETA ZX 8.5
MuchMore V2 FLETA PRO ESC
SRT BH8015 Low Profile
KO 413

I rewired the ESC, so the motor wires come from the side, not top and rewired the capacitor so it would fit around the side of the ESC as the wires were too short.
I also fitted the TRF Blue servo mounts and TRF Blue servo horn. A few stickers on the wing and now ready to paint the body. Wheels and Tyres to be glued and then ready to mount for final Pictures.......

If it does now, it certainly will when the bodies mounted qatmix......:)

I have been spraying the body today and just needs a few stickers to show its a TRF.....:D

I looked at a few bodies from different manufactures, and with the RB6.6 working on my TRF201 XMW Low rider, I had this option and did state in the early post I would use the RB6.6.....BUT !!!!!!!

I ordered a RB7 shell hoping it would be long enough for the TRF as the RB7 is now 4mm shorter.

Guess what, its a perfect fit. I will try and mount it up later.......

xfactor 03-01-2019 01:46 PM

Finished.

6 Attachment(s)
All finished and ready to test.

The body is the New RB7 Body and is a perfect fit. I will try to get to Coventry Club Sunday for the Club Meet to give it a run out.

Looks bad ass. Need some hydrolics on it and snoop dog smoking s spliff on the shell 😁

Aire valley 03-01-2019 06:34 PM

Great job, as always.......how do you manage to paint, sticker and mount a bodyshell in a couple of hours..?
Not too sure about your choice of body though...looks a bit too chunky and forward cab for me...sorry...apart from that..superb..!
Alan..

xfactor 03-01-2019 07:59 PM

Cheers Alan.......

I started the body yesterday and stickered it up last night.......

Keep looking at the body, it will grow and grow on you........:)

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That looks absolutely top drawer! Hopefully it goes as good as it looks. :)

Cheers Chrissy,

Hope to run it Sunday........

trowta 04-01-2019 01:03 AM

that is a peice of beauty!!! I wonder how it wi;ll perform against the b6.1 and yoke cars

Chris 04-01-2019 08:38 AM

What is the wheelbase?
Is it increased much compared to the original TRF211XM?

qatmix 04-01-2019 12:27 PM

That is just lush!

I did the same to the TRF201XMW (thread just below this) and that is on par with both buggies you mentioned. This is why I wanted do try this.

I have had both the YZ2 and B6/B6.1D and this for me Lands and Jumps like nothing I have drove (TRF201 XMW). People say the TRF211XM is even better than the TRF201 XMW for jumping and landing,, but hopefully we will see Sunday.........

On open bumpy tracks I see it not phased by any other manufacture but indoors maybe different. But I don't run indoors.... not much outdoors at the moment, but when I ran back in August against the same buggies you mentioned it was on par..........

Hi Chris,

The wheelbase is the same as the TRF211X as I have used the same hinge pin mounts, so wishbones stay in the same place. Depends which wishbone you use and direction you fit them.

All I have done is remove the TRF211XM mid gear box and fit the YZ2 gearbox. Everything else is TRF211XM.....

Simply beautiful Mark. Do love to see you build, and this one looks a ton of fun. Such a great car to drive, I'm betting a lower CG will be pretty nimble indeed.
