PR Hybrid Buggy

Hi all,

I've been itching to do something like this for a while but been waiting for the right time and buggies to come along!

Currently running a V3 FM and SB401 so if for any reason it didn't work at least the parts would have come in handy........

So take the front end of another V3 FM 2wd and strip it down.

Take the back half of a second SB401 and remove all the un-wanted front stuff.
I turned the centre slipper and mounts round and moved them back to aid weight distribution. The rear most diff mount is now in-line with the battery holders. Front drive cup cut off to make more space. I had to grind the chassis away here to clear the spur gear!

More soon.

I then cut the front kick-up off the 401 chassis - a little daunting but necessary - and flattened the kink!

Using a PR FM kick-up, this bolted straight up to 2 of the original holes and I then modded the last 2.

With that done I was able to assemble the front end onto the 401 chassis for the first time.

I've used the FM steering bell-cranks so new holes had to be drilled for these.

Then it was a case of working out the position of the side-guards and where to cut them down AND where to trim the front corners of the chassis, taking into account the stepped over-lap on the FM side-guards!

Once that was done I ended up with the finished buggy. Now to try it on the track!

Now all finished, with radio gear in.

Drives ok round the garden, bit noisier due to the 401 drive-train but will see how it goes 'on-track'.

Standard V3 shell just about fits too!

Very cool. I love these projects and nice to see what became of my sons 401 ;-)

Thanks Gareth!

Yep, it has changed a bit since you last saw it..

Drives really nice, in my opinion it handles better than my old FM.
Really pleased with how it has gone so far.

Good job on having fun off-the track. My favorite side of this hobby for the past about 30 years
