Titanium Screws Bending
Anyone having problems with the titanium screws?
I have bent 3 of the long ones for the top of the shock, and have stripped a couple. It seems that if I put a little muscle to snug it up the wrench twist a liitle and is tight pulling out the wrench. I use good wrenchs (Hudy,Losi) and are in new or like new condition. So don't waste your money unless you have it burning up your pocket. |
From experience you should never use anything but the steel screws on any buggy for the upper shock mounting as this area takes all of the abuse when jumping.

I was about to post that myself Paul - TI and Alloy screws should only be used where they won't get too much punishment - alloy even more so of course. It's surprising you broke them just putting them in this position but they would only break there.

As a matter of course proracing use ti screw kits on all their cars, and from our experience they are an excellent upgrade if you follow the following rules:-
1. Always use a teflon grease when fastening. 2. If scewing into a virgin plastic tap hole first. 3. Never use for shock fasteners(as noted by paul and jimmy). 4. When snugging up screw only use small amount of torque and then twist driver anti clockwise just a tad so as to release driver from fastener. Now all this may sound like a lot of hastle, but remember, ti fastenings are lighter stronger and most importantly they can't rust!!! |
Good advice steve!

What's proracing? :wtf::wtf::wtf:
|
And most importantly, remember TI screws look 'bling' and should always be used whenever possible, bling is king!

Blue is bling ;)
Or red. |
Whats the reason for not using them direct into plastic, I have seen this advice before but can't work it out?
|
Well if you screw them into hard-hard plastic you might strip the head

Thanks Jimmy,
Can also sign up to the "don't use them on shock mounts" club, I had them in the bottom (into the front/rear arms) and by the end of round 2 at Worksop yesterday 2 of them were bent! Dave |
