Kyosho RB6 Laydown Gear box

6 Attachment(s)
I have design and printed a 3 gear laydown box to my RB6
No new holes are needed in the chassie. And you can have the LIPO across or along the chassie.

I printed the motor plate in SLS aswell, just to testr fit before i order one i aluminium.
On my prototype its only feasible to fit a 68 tooth spurgear but it is corrected in the CAD models.

Attachment 86902

I printed a batteryholder i SLS aswell, but its designed for 2mm carbon fiber.
It has a movable stop depending on how you want the battery.

Attachment 86904Attachment 86905

I have not had the time to test it on the track yet. But the gears feels smooth in the box.

If there is an interest its available on Shapeways

Wow! Looks like a professional job.

Is the motor plate from another car, or custom, and if so have you got the drawing/do you make them?

AdrianH78 14-02-2016 01:30 PM

Stunning job, well done!

When you do own/proto parts out of plastic then white color is the best choice.
Good job on the items.
I hope it will turn out great for you..

The one that I have printed is for a custom motor plate.
But I have also made a gear box for Yokomo Z2-304 plate.

I have taken my experience from the printed one and modified my gear box for the Yokomo plate, the first one was not that good. So i have orderd a Yokomo plate and planing on order my updated gear box.

I have just ordered one of these so will report back once I get it all installed

Can't afford the RZ6 conversion and can't wait around for Kyosho to do the laydown gearbox so this look ideal. :)

Hi a few questions is it posted out in the UK or from USA. As I don't want to pay double tax.
Also if it is sent on the 14th how long will it take to get to me in the UK.

Dazzieboy 06-03-2016 05:23 PM

Looks like it's being shipped from US I got an email today saying it had been shipped and a UPS tracking number. I'll let you know when it lands

kleijon 07-03-2016 09:05 PM

I'm going to retract the above statement, according to the tracking information it's coming from the Netherlands. It was picked up yesterday and is being delivered tomorrow so I am pretty happy with the service so far and I shouldn't be stung on import duty

I dont use Facebook.
Can you give a quick update here?

OneKiwi 16-03-2016 02:29 PM

You can go thru me if you like Kristian

First outing with the 3D printed lowrider gearbox from Shapeways and I am seriously impressed. The car was a good step forward swapping to the 3 gear and I would say this is another step on from that. Ran on carpet at West Bridgford and with a couple of setup tweaks to get used to racing on minipins it felt really balanced and stable. Big thanks to Richard Bagshaw for lending me a YZ2 motor mount.

Ulrik Bakkebø Sirnes looks good, do you know if the spur fits under the stock body (in terms of height) without any cutouts?

Darren Wells Yes and yes. Motor plate part number is Z2-304. From Shapeways you need the gearbox and gearbox brace. There is a battery holder and spur cover too but I made my own battery holder from carbon fibre (its what I do for work) and used the shell to cover the spur

kleijon 16-03-2016 07:34 PM

Tack Simon! Om du har lust får du gärna posta sånt som skrivs där om min växellåda.

Darren is the spur gear close to the body? Any chans of the body to touch the spur in a crash?

Dazzieboy 16-03-2016 07:58 PM

With a stock body you would have to have a cut out and run a spur cover like they did at the worlds. I am currently running a penguin shell from ebay which has plenty of clearance
