Tamiya TRF201 XMW Low Rider !!

Hi all,

Thought I would share this Ive been working on. Along with a little help form COBRA RACING !!!

I have a TRF201 XMW and wanted to convert it to Low Rider. Had a look on the internet and could only see two, one which was machined alloy and no real contact. The other was with a YZ2 Low Rider gearbox and bits. This showed the shorty down the centre of the chassis as the TRF201XMW only allowed for this option along with saddle packs due to the Delrin side pods.

COBRA RACING !!

So me being me wanted to try and achieve this small conversion along with the shorty across the chassis !!!. Not down the centre.

So I had a chat with COBRA RACING !! Too see if this could be achieved. I explained what I wanted. So off I trotted to COBRA him self showed what I wanted and left the £1000 Delrin TRF201 XMW side pods. And did explain you can get them now !!!!.....:thumbsup: NO PRESSURE HEY !!!!

Well I must say what fantastic MACHINING by the man at COBRA RACING absolutely stunning work. PERFECTION and just what I wanted. A BIG THANK YOU FOR THE WORK CARRIED OUT......:thumbsup:

I then trotted home with Delrin side pods in hand ready to start the work. I have completed the TRF201 XMW Low Rider tonight and will be doing the body tomorrow ( If it cools down a bit )....:)

I will post pictures tomorrow of the TRF201 XMW Low Rider for those who are interested........:thumbsup:

Fantastic Mark :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Cheers Lads.

It was possible with COBRA RACING. Without the skills to machine the Delrin side pods, I couldn't of completed, as there wouldn't of been enough room for the shorty. So the complete conversion was in the hands of COBRA RACING. But we did it !!!!! :):)

With the one I previously seen on the internet, it had been fitted with TRF419 bellcranks. I didn't want to go down that route. I wanted to achieve what I have achieved above. Keep the steering standard and fit what I fitted....:thumbsup:

Just hope it goes as good as it looks now..............

What a brilliant build!

Well done Mark/Cobra, what could have been if tamiya had stuck at the trf off road development

Thanks Lads.

Exactly what I thought Marko when I was converting it. Lets hope Tamiya start the TRF stuff again....

Finishing Off !!

Hi all,

So managed to finish off today. Body fitted, pinion now fitted and modified battery strap to fit the Yokomo Worlds water fall.

I've been asked what body this is. Its the Kyosho RB6.6 Blade body. Most of the RB6/6.6 bodies will fit. As the Pro-line Phantom was for both buggies TRF201 XMW & RB6.

I have taken close-up pictures of both rear sides of the body, as Ive been asked how it fits around the spur gear and other side. To be honest PERFECT !!.......:)

Fingers crossed its dry Thursday as I will be testing it at the Coventry Track Thursday evening......:D

Glad they like it.........:)

Nice project that. Would be nice if TRF launched something new and applicable to our tracks, so that the ones that like running not the same as everyone else had more choise...

TRF201 XMW Low Rider

Hi all,

Just thought I would give an up-date on the Testing Tonight at Coventry Astro track.

Well I'm so glad I did it. It has transformed the TRF201 XMW completely.

The handling, jumping, landing, carrying speed into and out of the corners are all improved.

The change of direction and how it lands off jumps is fantastic.....

I did have a few comments as well of how it looked on track, which was all good and stating how good it looked. So overall really pleased.

I don't have a video of it running, but maybe next week if I can get someone at the track too I will.....:D

If you are considering doing it.......... DO IT !!! You will not be disappointed.......:thumbsup:

Updates !!

So since the original build, I have a few little updates.

1. I have replaced the plastic ballstud mount on the Rear, for the alloy upgrade.

2. I have fitted the original TRF201 rear-front hinge pin mount. The only difference from the TRF201 XMW rear-front mount is its machined at the front to allow the motor further back in mid-motor. But with the YZ2 gear box I can now fit the TRF201 rear-front mounts allowing 3.0-5.0 rear toe in, with the extra toe from the TRF alloy rear hubs.....

3. I have changed the Water Fall from the Worlds to the Original Water Fall. This is yet to be tested, but I want to see what the difference is, if any....

4. I went to COBRA Racing again. I wanted a small alloy machined block for the back rear. Not that it is/was needed, it was just for peace of mind really, as now the alloy block sits on top of the hinge pin holder. Perfect fit !!
