DEX210 Screw-Type Wing Mounts (+Other Parts)

I decided my DEX210 is a keeper - It is cheap and performance is decent... but there are plenty of things I would do differently on the car - so why not actually change them?

First of all, the wing mounts. Body clip systems for wings are far from ideal imo: Bad fit (often has too much play) and every now and then you see a car with a half-attached wing because a clip flew off. I've made a design that is 100% compatible with the DEX210 wing mounts:

I had some issues with the first one that arrived - one measurement was 0.5mm off (the one of the bottom mounting holes), so I couldn't get the top and bottom screws in the holes at the same time.

Now it's solved, I've got some pictures:

Good news: The wing mount fits perfectly this time! It's a nice, rigid piece too! The wing is tightly clamped on the car, it feels much better than the sloppy, wobbly unit that's in the kit. It's also supported slightly further back and over a larger area than with the stock unit, and the top cap (which is already painted black) is really convenient - it's easier to hold and harder to lose now the two sides are connected as one piece.

You may also note the small sidepod bodymounts I have made. The sidepods are just a bit low for velcro, and the body is so tight the wiring on mine lifts up the sidepods a bit... But not anymore! :p It can be used instead of the center rear clip, in combination with it, or just the center rear clip, in which case the body posts prevent the body from lifting up at the sides.

They look good mate

GrahamH7060 03-10-2013 05:04 PM

Nicely done !!

Put me down please for 2 wing mounts & 2 sets of body mounts please !

Lee24h 03-10-2013 05:19 PM

Brilliant 1 wing mount in black please

Origineelreclamebord 04-10-2013 10:06 AM

Thanks guys! :D I don't currently have a VAT-number/company, but by the sound of it I should look into that! :)

...even more so as I have plenty of models lying around, from DEX210 Screw-type wing mounts to suspension hangers/blocks for the Tamiya Dyna Storm, and there's more to come :p

Awesome work dude. I'll have some if your gonna produce them?!

Danosborne6661 04-10-2013 11:46 AM

Looks good! How come you didn't just cut the lugs off and drill the original though? Would be nice to see this wing mount but 10mm higher than kit to get clean air to the wing without the shock tower/shocks blocking it so much.

Lovely work as always
I like the way your designs use straight forward thinking and good strong design
I will take a wing mount set pleases
Pay pals easy dude

Origineelreclamebord 04-10-2013 08:02 PM

Thanks guys! :) I'll look into making this available...

...and also in a higher version. The nice thing is that, being 3D printed, it's easy to make customized pieces without adding much to the costs of the final product. So a +8 or +10mm version, or one with the mount supporting the wing further back is very easy to do!

As for not using the existing 210 mounts: There is not much beef there to hold screws in, so if you even manage to get holes in there for M3 screws the wing mounts will likely damage soon around the screw holes (elongated holes or even tearing/breaking apart). This also gives the opportunity to make better support for the wing (with big flat areas around the screw holes) :)

I like the idea of some higher ones

I edited the model a bit :) The height is adjustable from anywhere from the kit height to say +15mm (above that I'd say structural integrity becomes an issue without redesign):

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...hots8mm1-1.jpg

I might edit it slightly so there is more material going down from the back to the lower mount - just to ensure it's just as strong as the standard one.

Kosmickid 06-10-2013 07:05 PM

That's a great idea!

Also are the Sidepod body mounts production ready at all? Would like to get a pair of those?

Origineelreclamebord 07-10-2013 01:30 PM

The sidepod body mounts like the wing mounts are not race-tested yet. However, the parts fit, they have plenty of meat on them and considering the same material is tough enough for suspension arms, I'm comfortable with it that the design doesn't require changes to go in production.

That said, I need to inform myself about getting a VAT-number and the important details involved in doing business internationally before I take any orders - I just don't want any nasty surprises with the Tax Administration :) (Not to mention I want to ensure the mods find my thread to be in the right spot on oOple)

Having a VAT number (in the Netherlands) is no problem. Just visit the KvK (Chamber of commerce), sign up as a one-man business and you are good to go.

A business bank account is not even required. Just be sure you keep track of what you do and what you sell, thus you will need some kind of administration. And keep the VAT separate and eventually pay your taxes

If you need help in any kind, I'm here to help you out.;)

Product looks great, I don't drive a Dex, but to me it looks like a nice addition. I normally drill my wing mounts as well, but without enough material around the screws they snap easier.

You can't just sell parts out of your basement with a paypal account?

skyaflake 08-10-2013 05:27 PM

In fact that's pretty common. It's even legal to sell stuff until a certain level has been reached. Going for a VAT number is safer though.

Haha ok - good to know. I might do a first batch before getting a VAT number then (assuming that legal limit is not below 400 euros?). I have some health concerns that may postpone that for a few weeks, but I really can't wait to get a little business going :)

johnnygibbon 09-10-2013 08:57 PM

Nice to see your design work coming to fruition love the smooth looks of your stuff
Ill take some 8 mm ones dude
Awesome

GrahamH7060 09-10-2013 09:12 PM

Rather than selling individual mounts , wouldn't it be better to offer a kit consisting of the various sizes of wing mounts and a pair of body mounts ?

Would it be possible to mould them all together on the same tree style mould ??

I'll have two full sets when you get them up and running please !
Can you do them in different colours by any chance ??

Tom3012 09-10-2013 10:12 PM

I like them, i dont drive a durango but still a nice product! With regards to the +8mm ones, could you not use your original design, and just add an 8mm spacer? Include the spacer in the kit, that way you dont have to switch between mounts?

Like i say, nice product either way, and i like the white!!
