MadRat weight distribution?

hi guys! here's another question :) I've bought today some weights. 1x50g and 4x10g
How should I make a good weight distribution out of theese? adding slowly more and more weight and watching how the car handles? and where to put them? on the servo, on the sides? I know, it depends on the track I will run. But I thought, there is a standard thing which would help in any case. Thanks in advance!

Ask you before what miss to the car.
Do you want more steering ? Put some weight, I would say 20/30gr on the front.
If its better, ask you if you need more traction. If so, put some weight on the rear, I would say at least 20gr (10gr per side)

I will need more steering, for sure. Last time I was racing on that track, I had almost no steering. Now I will have proline 4ribs M3 on the front. I hope that will help too

I used to have 50 grams on the servo and a fair bit of toe out, once I got good tyres on it, then it really went around the corners good like that

kedal 22-07-2010 09:04 PM

The front tire will change your life !
If you still need more steering, put the weight.

Dont forget that if you have more steering, you may need more traction on the rear.

haha, I agree, he will be amazed with the new tyres :)

zagonielod 22-07-2010 09:11 PM

thanks guys! :) I'm allready feeling more confident :)

positronic 23-07-2010 03:35 AM

mmm I have 50gram on the front servo also

Weight on the back outer corners of the chassis will help keep the rear down on rough tracks. Weight on the front will help with steering but too much will upset the balance of the car and will be noticeable on jumps. Ive never messed with more then 10-20 grams.
50?? woah...
Tires are always your best friend for %80+ of car handling.
Just my opinion of course.

I run the softest jconcepts on mine, it still wheelies and understeers on the track, even with the slipper loose and the punch set low, this is with the suspension set as per the manual, I'm going to adjust some settings today and see If i can get it to steer better into corners.

jumping, lands on the back slightly before the front.

Thanks a lot guys! I understood now that on the 1st place are the tires. The best front tires I could get now are those proline 4 ribs M3s. I will slowly adjust 10/10grams of weight if needed. And I also will try some suspention settings.

positronic 23-07-2010 09:50 AM

I moved the upper front links, to the inner adjustment on the hub and increased my drag brake a notch, is turning quite well now :)

zagonielod 23-07-2010 01:23 PM

well, i think I will spend several hours on the track -when I finally get there- with finding the good setup for it. I also will move the links one by one to see the differences in handling, and adding weights slowly, where it will be needed. I will make several laps with the stock front tires, after that I will put on the new prolines. I am curious to see the difference between them.

BTW! congrats to your new camera positronic! I also would like to buy an HD camcorder, something small and budget, but not at this period, cas it is a very bad one financially over here :(

positronic 23-07-2010 03:20 PM

be sure to check out tqracings setup guide if you havnt already, it's very good.

Wow! :) I haven't seen this yet. but now you gave me what to read :) Thanks!

Hey guys....just an ideea..... Could you measure the weight of your cars? I am curious what would be the weight of your MadRats, let's say without battery. I've seen that kedal's car has plenty of weight placed all over the car. He has even in those little spaces on the back of the main chassis.

kedal 02-08-2010 10:34 AM

My car's weight is :

1519gr

With lipo, body, wing, all needed to race.

I have only 20gr on the spaces on the rear, as you says, but I have my personal weight distribution, so the lipo is on the very front.

positronic 02-08-2010 11:09 AM

mines 1350gr without a battery

zagonielod 02-08-2010 12:12 PM

Mine has about 1300gr without battery. I thought yours are heavier :)
With a 4600 nimh it has 1700gr
