"Speed" or "punch" radio function necessary for racing?

Shopping for a new radio...was wondering if the "speed" or "punch" seetring/acceleration are really handy for racing or just a gimmick!?

Radios i'm looking into...

Futaba 3PM-X(WO "speed" function but has FASST technology)

Futaba 4PL(W/ "speed" function but lower end FHSS tech.)

i think thay are a big plus, some cars are very twitchy ans so turning the steering speed helps to calm the car down as your not over correcting to quickly and getting out of shape, the punch is also handy if you run on carpet one week then slippy stuff the next, its not essential but i think it helps to have them

Throttle punch is used more on nitros to overcome slack in the throttle linkages.

Forgot to mention that i will be racing 4wd buggy class.

Also i have to specify that im talking about the "speed"(torque control/steering return) and not ACCEL.(for nitro lag)

A very firm NO from me for those kind of settings.

They are a trap - you think you are making the car easier to drive, but actually you are dulling it's responses. The best way to slow down the cars reactions is to slow down your thumbs.

I use nothing beyond the sub-trim, end-points, rates and expo on my transmitter.

The benefits of a quality transmitter are not the long list of features - it is the quality itself!

"dulling down".........or as you do with your expo, setting the car to your capabilaty, then when you want more speed you turn it up
