A return for rear motor cars ?

Hi all, hope everyone is staying safe and well.
At our local club we have decided to have a rear motor class when racing can resume and I have got myself a car for this purpose. I find myself more eager to run this rather than my new associated b6.2 and I started wondering why. It seems that the thought of running a rear motor class appeals to alot of members and I personally feel even though they are certainly not as fast as the new breed of laydown cars they seem to have a more nostalgic charm to racers who have been racing for say 10 years of more. It's left me wondering if we will see manufacturers ever
start making rear motor cars again and maybe even developing them further if this class was ever to get popular. To maybe start this I ask if you have an opinion on this then I would love to hear it and maybe post pics of your rear motor rides if you have any. I'll post some of mine when I have painted it. Thanks all...

would be a wonderful return
problems I see are who currently makes a rear motor modern 2wd
schumacher still do a KD but instantly I'm at a loss if other manufacturers do ?
I hope I'm wrong do yokomo losi or AE still have a rear motor car ?
if that's the case were into running vintage stuff and spares can be hard to find
plus just sold my last b4::(
I have a topcat nib to build but it would be no match for a xx xxx or b3 b4

great thought at club level on old school grass only though

The Schumacher kd is rearward mid motor. I was thinking motor out the back. At the moment it's all vintage or re release but you can get an old b4 or cougar kr for not alot these days and it's all for fun.

This is mine, I was hoping to give it a run this year outdoors but that’s not now going to happen:thumbdown:

We run vintage at YORCC, which by default means rear motor. Mostly Associated and Losi cars.
This is my B3 and I also have a B4.2 though the B4 is deemed too new as we use 2000 as a cut off for vintage.
I definitely find the B3 more fun to drive than my B6 and it works really well on the low grip gym floor.

I've built up 2 x B4's during lock down and intend to race them in the SE, 1066 club are going to do a 'Classic' meeting on grass so will be cool running the vintage and the rear motor cars there

I've seen a few races in the states where they run a rear motor class

Doubt we will see company's go this route but nice to see all the rear motor cars being brought back to life

The last made ones I can think of are the TLR 22, VBC Firebolt RM and the Yokomo BMax2. There's also the others like the Ansmann Mad Rat.

We have been running a rear motor class in the midwest region for the past 6 months or more, the MAM series had it's own class for rear motor and both coventry and telford did seperate heats if the numbers were enough,it was really good close racing not to mention fun and regardless of a newer or vintage rear motor times were pretty close,at 1 of the kidderminster MAM rounds Tommy Hall qualified his b4.2 3rd overall in the normal 2wd class and only a few seconds off beating his own TQ,it wasn't a low quality field, bone dry track and 15yrs of development of cars to where they are now he got within a few seconds of TQ

Rear motor all day for me, and I also cannot wait for the cab forward body trend to die out as well - I absolutley hate the look of them, to the point that I won't race a modern car!! vintage is the future for me!

Original "cab-forward".

Are you guys that are running the rear motor cars struggling to source parts at all?

adey 19-05-2020 11:55 AM

I will say I ordered the cab forward body for mine as it's the plus 8mm chassis and thought the rearward cab rear body from penguin wouldn't fit as it's the standard length. I have a read cab body off my old car and it can be made to fit easily as it seems so I will be ordering a rear cab from penguin as I think it will be better looking and more original. That said I am not sure if the b4.2 came with a cab forward body in the kit.

Funny this thread cropped up.

I purchased a Centro off ebay and unconverted it back into a B4. I'm more excited to run this than the latest 2WD I've recently finished building! It has all the period parts like brass bulkhead, alloy steering rack, uprated slipper etc.

It's been wired up since this photo, with the receiver stashed under the ESC platform. Can't wait to try it.

So who now is on eBay looking for a rear motor car or parts lol. That b4 looks real nice.

I am selling some B4 parts all new in packet just listed in the sale section

Would love to get a rear motor buggy again; ran the XX for years back in the day and on my return (10 yr lay-off) a used B4 and loved it. Availability is tricky though (I’ve been looking, admittedly not very hard, for about 6-12 months and not found anything suitable) and I would be concerned parts would be hard to get/expensive if I did get something?

Buggyman 19-05-2020 07:38 PM

What type of rest wing is that mate ?

Shame the B4 isn't old enough to run in vintage but if you're just looking for a rear motor car it's a very good chassis. Maybe a B5 if you can find one but I've not seen many.
