Cheap China 120A ESC

What are peoples opinions on these cheap ESC's? Here is the link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131983190700

You can get the same for £12 or so on ebay. I bought two and a hobbywing program 3 in 1 box to get firmware on them (they are apparently compatible).

Haven't tried any of it yet though. There's a thread here, somewhere, I'll try and come back with a link ...

edit: They are cheaper from china £12 but 2-5 week delivery.

Here's the thread that dives in at the end: http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184502

Thanks for the reply! Could you post a link to the software for them please?
Thanks

As I understand it when you install the hobbywing software (not sure where to get it) it prompts to install new software it has or downloads. I may try 1 today and get back to you. Should be simple no searching ftp websites etc.

cheap esc

i tried one of these lasted all of 2 heats before it fried itself with a 10.5 but have heard of people having success with it guess you either get good or bad. imo if you want a cheap esc go for a trackstar or xcar 120a from hobbyking got 2 xcars and got no issues and can be flashed with hobbywing software although i have not done it myself:thumbsup:

I bought 2 of the ones you linked to. Took a week to come. Borrowed a hobbywing program box and flashed some software onto it. Not sure which version of software I ended up with.
Works absolutely fine (including before I flashed it) on a 13.5.
Bought 2 at that price in case 1 fried itself.
Worth a punt in a second car I think which is what I used it in

Apparently (and I'mnot sure) it'sa 12v fan running on 5-6v so its too slow on 2s and burns out on 3s. Replacing it is recommended but im going to chance it

I can't help with the firmware for these, but the Hobbyking X-Car 120A runs the V2.1 software fine.
Software can be found on the US website, they keep an archive of all versions. https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/pages/download

I'd it's like the X-Car then I suggest using the 1.64 software to get an official firmware installed, then using the 3.52 software you can update it to whatever firmware you want.

Software loaded from factory is "modified" so will be fine for a 10.5 to start with

That's great to hear Dave, is it worth downloading the firmware or just leave as is for the time being? Also can you recommend suitable starting settings for a 10.5 for 4wd off road please?

Thanks for your help

I tried one of these 120a TSKY ESC last week. Bear in mind I have the hobbywing 3 in 1 program box and I don't think the sky USB link will work. Here's the update procedure that worked for mine (from memory):

1) Download the hobbywing software to the PC, install, restart PC.
2) Unpack your 3 in 1 program box, use the included USB cable to connect it to your PC.
3) Start the Hobbywing programming software. Switch it to LCD Program Box mode:

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/01...rande.png?1889

4) Click 'Firmware Upgrade' on the left and then in the main window follow the prompts to update your 3 in 1 hobbywing program box to the latest firmware.

5) Let it complete, unplug the hobbywing usb, close the software.
6) Connect the receiver wire of the TSKY 120a ESC to the hobbywing program box (correct port, the middle one), and connect a fairly charged LiPo to the ESC.
7) Plug the Hobbywing program box back in to the computer.
8) Start / restart the hobbywing software.
9) (Make sure the Device menu has 'ESC Program Mode' selected).
10) Click 'Firmware Upgrade' again, the latest firmware should be chosen for you but just make sure (mine was a V3 I think), then hit update and wait until it's all done.
11) Once the update is complete you can optionally close the software and reconnect the USB and then go back in the software and configure your ESC parameters like enable reverse, change dead band, boost, turbo, etc. I didn't change much from the defaults except to enable reverse.

Your £11.61 120a ESC now has the latest hobbywing firmware on it and is totally configurable with the software.

Mine worked first time for my 10 min run time with 2s and a 7.5t. Hope you like it. My further quick impressions will go in the other thread linked above. I don't have too many unfortunately.
