transponder - harry, purcy, mrt, etc ?

What do they look like? 'Harry', 'purcy', etc

What difference between them.. and which is 'official' products?

Pictures would be great!.

The one on the LHS is the latest mylaps transponder, that's the Harry, the one on the RHS is a Purcy.

There both RC4 compatible.

minty 27-01-2014 09:49 PM

I think the purcy is looks exactly the same as the harry one but is only rc4 compatible. The harry is a hybrid one so works with all the systems.

this page has all the info that you would need regarding the differences.

If it was me id get a harry, a bit more expensive but you know it would work everywhere.

Hi
My advice is stick to the AMB transponders (the red ones) in general. The black ones are MRT.
Take a look here:http://www.bbksoftware.com/

if you read through you will also find the differences. The places that you are racing like Silverstone & Telestar in MK, I think in general the 'Harry' is the best one to buy as it works at all clubs but the 'Purcy' will only work at clubs with RC4 (not all clubs are RC4).

if you are looking to buy a 'Harry' Look here:http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143358

Regards Sam

The new breed of MRT are fine..

I use them at RC4 venues with no problems at all, and you can replace the leads...

If you've got the cash go for a Harry, it should be pretty future proof. If you wanna save like £25 go for the MRT, its compatible with all inc RC4 but if they come along and release RC5, theres a chance it may not work....

I took the chance and the MRT works perfectly. The ordering system is a little old school though, no real online store to purchase.

You sure that description is right ?
The left transponder is the purcy and will only work on tracks with the new rc4 decoders and not many clubs will use it yet as they know there members will have to upgrade to it, some clubs offer discount on mass trade ins etc..
The right one is the older amb and will still have a good few years left.
The harry hybrid works with them all and looks like the purcy but with white writing etched on it (purcy has black transponder personal id)
The mrt ptx black transponders are not a mylaps product so they wont support it but a new one is supposed to be rc4 compatible, i think mylaps dont want people cloning em, mylaps could possibly stop em working ? But they are more affordable.
I just got the older amb one at a good price i think it will last a while longer.

Correct

New MTR PTX is compatible with the new RC4 decoders and the older ones.

If your looking at buying a used MRT PTX that's RC4 compatible make sure it blinks on power up.

Here's the previous older model showing how to change the PT number should you not have your own number and there's a clash of numbers at a race meeting. You can do the same on the newer model also

thats most helpful, thanks, I am currently trying to get the money together for the transponer but as I intend to race at 2 clubs, 1 on rc4 one on rc3 I was thinking I would have to find the £82 odd quid for the amb one, no way can I justify that.

the MRT at about £52 is far more agreeable

Yer I thought that as well the one on the right is the transponder used before Harrys came out.Not sure what it was called, probably Jeff:D..Edit IT has a name, I never knew, pete

Back to the question, If funds are tight do keep an eye out for second hand, Harrys(look like the transponder on the left in his photo) do come up on here quite regularly, as do the older ones (shown on right in photo), they will both work with all the AMB systems apart from AMB20 the old old system. Don't be afraid of second hand, the transponders are nigh on indestructible I use a harry but my boys both use the older ones, one of which I bought about 5+years ago and used in many cars Inc my rallyx It's never ever missed a lap..ever

So that is how you can tell the Harry & Purcy apart? is there any other way of distinguishing one from the other or is that it?

A 'Harry' has 2 wires (red/black)
A 'Purcy' has 3 wires (red/white/black)

Should be pretty obvious then ! even to an idiot such as myself :)

vrooom 28-01-2014 11:38 AM

So wrong, left is harry right is pre harry, purcy looks like harry but has three wires and does not work on anything other than rc4.

IMO MRT is the best

PeTe came from the original direct powered Personal Transponder.
http://www.bbkrclive.com/2010/Offroa.../RC4System.pdf

I would guess they decided to keep an naming convention of names rather than version numbers because its easier/snappier? Dunno.

and oddly mylaps don't have any clue if you call em by the names!
