Masking tape

I want to switch to masking tape from liquid mask for various reasons like cost and applying time.

I need one obviously that doesn't leave behind glue residue and cuts well...I see it being used by japanese pro painters but failed in contacting what stuff they use.

I have a very thin roll of Tamiya masking tape that I think left a bit of glue from what I remember, but can't be sure.

How about the 3m blue stuff? Or?

Probably should just try it myself.

Thanks for any replies.

Tape

I use electrical tape , doesn't leave a residue has a clean smooth edge and also allows a bit of give if you want some curves ... I only do basic simple designs and works for me.

Frog tape is good.

When I used tape I swore by Tamiya stuff. Tried lots of others, but nothing came close.

I'm almost positive I have seen TD Takashima referencing 3M Automotive refinish tape as the stuff he uses.

I use the paper tamiya stuff, i think it's a 35mm wide roll. It is less tacky than the plastic, thinner sizes that they do.
Robin at SWM ;)

The 3M Automotive refinish tape doesn't seem available over here :cry:.

I'll give frog tape a go first - if it's a disaster then i'll jump to tamiya again.

Hope it goes around corners .

Good luck, my Tamiya frog never went round corners. Oh, hang on, I see 😀

I use blue vinyl 3mm or 6mm for neat edges and that does gentle curves ok
