KC versus Laydown

Hi All,

Just bought a cheap KC, my first 2wd for a couple of years.
Took it out last night and loved it!

Question is how much better is the Laydown on high grip Astro?

I’ve seen quite a few Laydowns come up for sale recently having had little or no use....why?
Interested to hear people views.

Thanks for reading.

The main difference's are, the laydown has more composure at the limit, also it finds traction better
You can also say the design means its easier to work on

For them coming up for sale with little use, from my experience is getting them setup.

I came from a Yokomo YZ2 CAl2 to a Laydown and the LD was not as quick and I could not get a setup to work, I was about to give up, when a fellow racing with a LD said let me set that up for you, Wow then I noticed a difference, its fast, corners on Astro like it would be on rails really happy with it now.

Still got the Yokomo, but that is my wet car now

Hi, I'm interested to know what setup changes worked for you? I've heard comments from others that it's not an easy car to drive but is super quick with the right setup.

Thanks

Im not sure where people get the 'hard to drive' comment, i loved the KC, i had to do some work on set up but it was a great car, with the laydown i knew it would have more traction due to the weight bias, at the same time it would have less mid/low speed steering compared to the old car. I added the servo weight and shortened the front wheel base and its on rails. I have a wet car too with further set up changes so it works in the low grip too. Team schumacher proved its good car at Boughton with 4 cars in the A.
Maybe people dont want to work on their set up?

I'm not sure why, by my ld seems easier and faster than my kc was, and lacks no steering anywhere, so much so I have just built a second to have a carpet and low grip car.
Many have found a ball diff is the best option on many tracks outdoors

this is Ellis's set up from EPR, its a wet set up with a ball diff, the kit set up with 2.5 toe and all the weight moved forwards is a better average track set up

Casper7 23-08-2019 01:32 PM

Yes I confirm weight forward in the dry and gear diff and mine is sorted on dry high grip astro tracks

Bigdawgracer 23-08-2019 03:12 PM

So what is the best diff for the KC on high grip Astro? Ball?

Have you checked schumacher site?

I have found the KC better with the full L1 rear end, it seems just more compliant, putting the laydown side rails on mine now so I can put a moveable battery mount in for balance movement.

mark christopher 29-08-2019 12:02 PM

The battery trays will fit the kc plates, the ld plates will give more chassis flex.
