Stu Wood wins the Bury Metro North West regional

I thought Stu Wood deserved a mention here for winning the North West regional this weekend just gone, using the RB5.
We'll have a report up soon from Stu on how the day went, but early on Stu was frustrated at his first big meeting with the RB5 at his home track. Things got better through the day however and with some setup changes Stu was able to get the car working well around the tricky Bury track. After a long battle with Danny McGee, they both passed early leader Damian Whittle.

Danny McGee kept pushing his Losi XXXCR hard but wasn't able to make a pass on Stu - missing out on the loop by fractions of a second to allow Stu a lap of honor on his own and an easy victory.
This win places Stu at the top of the North West 2WD regional series after 2 rounds, with his second place finish in the first round at southport (detailed in the RB5 review on oOple.com).

Stu was using the hopup front alloy axles, and optional rear 'proline' axles, which allow Stu to use the same rear wheels as his Tamiya 501X (same as the rc10b4).

Stus report and setup from Bury will be up soon, thanks for your patience.:)

After tanking round for a rare 12 lapper in R4 I thought I might just be able to mix it up in the final, alas a snapped ariel put paid to that and I glitched round to a lonely 6th.

Credit to Woody, McGee, Damo and Spenny for putting on a good show though, especially Woody for the win.

Looking at my marshalling form in the first pic it seems the Urban Sprint training is paying off!

Hi Stu,

Very Good..... We are still in there so continue the good work.... By the way, are you attending the Euro in Northern Europe? If yes contact me, please.

Thanks

John

Stu piloted into the A final yesterday at Bury Metro National, with two 4th in round finishes he qualified 7th out of 130 drivers! Stu was a lot happier with the car this weekend after some small modifications and playing with the shocks etc to get it dialled.

WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I am sooooooooo chuffed about getting my RB5 into the A main. It has been something like 15 or so years since a Kyosho has been in the A main in the UK.

Well done mate - It's awesome to see, and the Tamiya the same in 4WD - did you get a 2nd in round today?
If you get time, would you be able to put a few words together again on the car(s) - don't worry if you don't have time mate.

jim76 10-06-2007 09:53 PM

nice one Stu. your work has obviously paid off with the testing.

maybe now you can share some secrets?!!!!!

jimmy 10-06-2007 10:08 PM

One change stu made was to turn the rear front pivot block upside down - removing some anti-squat. I'm sure Stu will write a few words on that. Stu is also running prototype shock towers from Atomic Carbon in 4mm thick carbon fibre - these have the same holes as the kit items but also additional holes further out, and these are the holes Stu was using. More info on those soon hopefully.

The rest of Stus setup will come, I'm sure. just in the hand the car felt a lot better than it did before - and it looked it on the track too.

telboy 11-06-2007 08:32 AM

would that be the rear most pivot block?

I can't wait to try those new shock towers out at the weekend.

jimmy 11-06-2007 09:04 AM

No, front block at the rear - the one that sits under the chassis in front of the gearbox.
