Anyone remember the Tamiya Challenge Series
Me and my dad used to race in it think it was the first real series I ever did. You used to win tokens or vouchers if you did well we won enough for 2 new boomerangs :D
There was a big final can't remember where seem to remember it being in a big cow shed lol |
I remember racing in the Tamiya Challenge at Aylesbury and (I think) Amersham. Would have been maybe 1987?
Memory now dulled by excessive age and possibly alcohol intake! |

I remember it well!
I entered a couple of regional qualifiers up near me, one was in Sheffield at the Octagon Centre, the other I can't remember where. I did well enough to qualify for the Champs held at Three Counties Showground in Malvern that year, 1986. I did absolutely rhubarb racing, my modified Hotshot had so little steering lock I had to do a 3 point turn at the hairpin every lap! I did manage to win the concourse d'elegance though and come home with a trophy for it! The tokens that you won were called Tamiya bonds, I won enough for a set of the yellow plastic oil filled shocks and a Tamiya cap which I still have somewhere. :) |
