120A ESC.
 

Looking for a decent 120A ESC for under £25. Long shot I know but worth a try.

get the hobbyking xcar one for £30 and get the firmware changed to the xerun v3 mod firmware, usb program lead to do it is about £6

yes or the 120a escs on ebay for about £18 are same, but they are a lottery and do go pop.
where as the xcar £30 ones are reliable.

I've been told about them before, are they any good? And what is that firmware business about?

I can only speak from my own personal experience with one, soon as I got it I flashed the official Hobbywing MOD firmware, its a Hobbywing 2.1 copy/rebrand/whatever but the PC software sees it as a real one so allows the real software to be flashed. It's been in my 4WD with a 6.5T motor all this year and hasnt missed a beat, even survived a race when the fan stopped in the peak of summer on a very hot day.

Maybe I was lucky and got a good one, I'd imagine the QC isnt going to be great but I know a few people who bought real Hobbywing 2.1's and they've either stopped working shortly or dead on arrival so even they're not perfect.

none have died on me yet

leave etronix alone its bulky and has limited programming options
turnigy option is a short course sensorless not best option for 1/10 buggy

stop messing about and get some cheapies whats too loose at 15 quid each

Thats the esc and the program is in the files section on that page, the hobbyking one is less likely to go pop from experience.

I have a hobbyking xcar as well probably better quality than the super cheapy versions and available from hobbyking UK in 2 days not couple of weeks

Pay your money take your choice you may be lucky and find a higher quality second hand bargain on here is lrp absima speed passion etc you never know

The firmware is like the operating system on a PC. The Hobbywing ESC the clones are a copy of uses the equivalent of Windows 8.

The clones come with the equivalent of XP, the firmware in them works fine but by 'upgrading' the firmware you get all the extra functions and performance of the ESC that was copied.

You then have different versions of the firmware, just like Windows 8 is available in home, pro, enterprise versions depending on the requirements and hardware.
So if you are running a low turn motor (under 10.5 turns) you use the modified firmware which works best with those motors. If you are running a higher turn motor (10.5,13.5, 17.5 turns) then you load up the stock firmware which gets more speed out of those motors, but that firmware will overheat a low turn motor.
