X-6 Hole under gear box ???
X-6 Hole under gear box ????? Hi all i have ordered an X-6 this week after seeing my mates X-6 Sunday look Awsume there is no other word for it beating 4wd buggys as well as walking all over 2wd 's also well it did in the first 2 races and this was the first time he had driven a 2wd Buggy ....... Anyway Race 3 he was doing well again when his X6 started to look like it was slowing a little and sounding a little rough , After a close inspection in the pits we found a bit of drit had got into the gearbox !!! Is there a mod that can be made to seal this hole or was he just very unlucky :o and i should not realy worry about this .... Any idears please............ |
I have heard of some people making some small lexan guards to go in there but to be honest in all the time I have had mine I have only had one piece of sand get in there and all it done was just made it a little noisy.
You could try running a small bead of diff lube or similar around the gearbox to stop dirt getting in there but I think you have just been unlucky to be honest. E. |

I agree. I have shimmed my gearbox higher (.06") on my X-6 and so the diff gear is quite exposed. I have not made any guards and so far I have had no issue with anything getting in. I have raced on all extremes - dusty clay, sandy astro, mud, loose grass and indoors, with no issue. I hope the damage was not severe, just an unlucky occurence. I would suggest double checking all gearbox bolts, they do not like to be over-tightened - just finger tight, don't put any torque through, this may loosen the gearbox so it spins freely? |

The lexan covers sound like a good idea as I think that using silicone grease or something of the same nature could atract more dirt!
unfortunatly it was more of a rock that got into the gearbox and caused a fair bit of damage and still sounded very tractor like when the stone was removed so ive got new gears on order! Car handeled very well on its first ever outing and I was even more pleased as id never driven a 2wd car before! |
The lexan shields wont stop the finest dust but it will stop the "DNF rocks", you do need to make some room for them otherwise the tranny will bind
