Try contacting the phat bodies guys (Simon and Dan Osbourne). They're pretty handy with vacuum forming, and come up with some cool looking designs. No reason why this can't be done for a multicopter...

You need to be comfortable with the setup you have, that way your flying will come more naturally to you.
Personally I prefer mode 2 for flying...
