Hi all,

I've been out of racing for a while now (last forum visit Sept 2008!), but sorting out some house stuff I've come across my old RRC magazines, starting around the end of 1991 and running...

But is that 370 W electrical input (current × voltage), or 370 W 'brake' mechanical output (torque × speed)?

If it's the latter then the current required will be quite a bit more...

Because real cars don't do 300 mph. This is my whole point - the speed doesn't scale like that. A 1/10th buggy doing 30 mph looks like it's going faster than a Formula One car or a Bugatti Veyron,...

No...

The effect when falling is exactly the same. From the top of its flight (i.e., zero vertical velocity) the car will accelerate downwards at 10 (okay, 9.81) m/s^s. So, in 0.5 sec, both cars...

I think it would have to be a covered-wheel class.

Our big, open, spiky tyres (and exposed suspension) would add a lot of aero drag - although if the rules would allow you to fit snoring car...

Exactly. If you're looking at a film of a car, which has no other clues to the size, then your brain would assume that it's about "car-sized", i.e. about 4 m long.

It will then make further...

:p :p :p

Nope, 10's too much - that would slow the 'scale' acceleration down by 100, because it's metres per second squared.

Try this then: you know how you used to hear "my car does 25 mph, so...

It seems that timing and gearing do more or less the same thing - so you can run taller gearing with less timing, or shorter gearing with more.

Too much of both is a quick way to a purple comm,...

I'd love to see a video of 1/10th slowed down by ~3.2:1 (sqrt(10)) as I have a theory that it would look like full size...
