I was the marshal on the scene when one of the 1/8ths smashed apart the jump just before the straight. Considering how heavy those ramps are (I carried them out of storage) there was a lot of force in that impact. Certainly had me thinking our current level of bystander protection wasn't up to dealing with that sort of mass at that speed.
In truth though the 2 we had were well driven and under decent control. The problem is
this - available from the model shop in the Trafford centre for £300 and even less at Modelsport. Thats true RTR - even with lipos making it an exceptionally cheap car. That means potentially we could have complete novices (or worse still me!) driving cars only a little slower and just as heavy as those on Sunday. That is a very worrying concept.
