Default TLR 22 Vega GEN 3 Build Thread

The GEN 3 22 kit is due release very soon now, and with a large amount of interest I thought I'd post a build thread of building my dads kit up for others to follow
Please excuse my best pit towel!

How it starts, 22 built in mid config.

And the GEN 3 Kit.

Remove the front end from your TLR chassis.

And simply bolt onto the new Vega chassis in exactly the same way as it came off the TLR chassis.

Remove the rear end from the TLR chassis and strip it down so you have a arrangement of parts similar to this.

Bolt the front hanger and anti squat shim to the chassis, you need to use the plastic insert from the rear motor 22 as the block is now freestanding and not sandwiched between the gearbox and chassis plate.

Reverse the rear wishbones (Left on the right, right on the left) and assemble as you normally would, place both of the washers at the front of the wishbone so they are spaced back as far as they go. Secure the rear hanger with two M3 nyloc nuts. Place the ball stud on the hub in rear row for the straightest link.

Disassemble the 22 gearbox so you have a arrangement of parts like so.

Open up the bag containing the new gearbox, you'll find the gearbox prebuilt with all the correct screws in the right place and some diff shims, the shims are included as the 22 gear diff seems to be a little wider than the ball diff. When using the ball diff use one shim either side the remove the side float, when using the gear diff use no shims at all.

Open up the new gearbox and place all the 22 parts into it, place the diff in so that the screw is on the opposite side to the spur (The right side looking from the back) Make sure all the bearings are pressed fully home.

Finish the gearbox assembly, and secure the motor plate, the second layshaft bearing is in the motor plate, you may find a bearing included and all ready installed as they can be a tight fit. Refit the clutch assembly as it came off the 22.

Install the gearbox onto the chassis.

Open up the bag containing the shock tower and the bag containing the wing mounts. Screw the wing mounts to the shock tower with the included screws. Take the shock mounts from the 22 tower and attach to the Vega tower using a 2mm washer between them allowing for clearance between the tower and shock cap. (They're should be plenty of plastic washers left over from the 22 kit, they're is likely to be 2mm under the inside ball stud which are no longer used). Take the ball studs from the 22 tower mount and secure to the new tower using two M3 nyloc nuts.

Fit the tower to the gearbox, pop on the turnbuckles and screw the shocks to the wishbones and your done!

The stock 22 is known to have little radio gear room, you'll find LOADS of room in your new GEN 3 chassis, by loads I mean you could fit a full size servo, A large esc and large receiver very very easily.

And a quick two pictures to show the difference in distance between the rear axle and motor.

Any questions please ask!
