I can't help with the firmware for these, but the Hobbyking X-Car 120A runs the V2.1 software fine.
Software can be found on the US website, they keep an archive of all versions.

I'd it's like the X-Car then I suggest using the 1.64 software to get an official firmware installed, then using the 3.52 software you can update it to whatever firmware you want.
