I may be a bit biased but for 2wd back garden fun the TamTechs fit the bill perfectly. Cheap second hand ones can be found and they are transformed with a set of oil shocks and a tuned motor or brushless set up. Spares are pennies and they are tough as old boots especially if you go for the GB02 front end.
