The brakes thing is fairly easy I guess - the Schumacher Menace GTRe 'thing' had a free wheel system via a one way bearing that decoupled the motor on overrun so that you still had a mechanical brake. Perhaps when you do the initial setup on the esc you could set the full brake position at 100 percent then turn brake end point down to zero. That should make a fwd and no brake set up - or am I wrong?
Perhaps a heat of J82 cars would be an easier solution -although not as tough as an RX buggy.
