Pinion grub screw
I use to race 20 / 25 years agog still have all my old pinions but I am in need of new grub screws, anybody know if they could be imperial or metric and where I can get them from please? I have been told they could be imperial and all the new ones are metric!

Also, old pinions used to have different teeth pitch, so if using with a modern car then you may find it won't mesh properly.
Can't comment on whether grubs were imperial or metric, but even today many US models still use imperial screws and fittings while Japanese use metric. Presume the pinions are all standard though as they are sized for motor shaft and gear teeth pitch

Buy one of each (metric/imperial) and lightly thread them through each pinion.
Should get an idea, unless the brands are stamped on the pinion, then you should be able to guess (US brands = probably imperial, anything else = probably metric) If they are 48DP, they'll still be compatible with modern cars. You'll have to do some measurements. |

Tbh it is in my opinion throwing money away getting grub screws for your old pin ions. They may or may not work with your new choice of car, but these days with the new brushless motors and lipos gearing is chosen very differently to the old ways where you would have several different motors and choose a motor and gearing according to track size motor speed and not dumping. Therefore we all carried a big range of pinions to deal with this. Now you gear to an appropriate ratio for the car and your chosen motor. Therefore one pinion. You use timing and epa settings on the tranny to control top speed and acceleration so it's suited to the track. Oh and you will never dump with lipos. Full stop. I have one pinion for each car I own. That's it really. I buy a new one every time I change a spur gear cos I want the best mesh poss. But to cut a long story short. If I were you I'd forget your old pinions. Just buy a new one with your car and motor. £5. You know it will be the right size. The right pitch and it will have a new grub screw. (Your local hoppy shop will advise re correct ratio I'm sure ). It may cost more than a fiver trying to get grub screws posted and then they still not work.
