Vintage TC racing advice
Hi everyone, I've just purchased a pair of old Tamiya TRF414's to compete in the Iconic Cup next year and am after some advice.
First off if anyone has experience with setup of these cars for termac or just in general. I'm new to on road as I've only raced off road before I'm going to need help on what's the best tyres and well everything on road. I will be racing it 13.5t blinky so I'll also need recommendations on electrics please. This is my starting point ones a 414 the other is a 414m

Run it on the Kit Setup to start.
Make sure the chassis plates aren't tweaked, and check them as you build it. Measure the spring heights, had issue with the springs being different heights making me think the car was tweaked due to the shock collar heights being uneven. the TRF shocks are some of the best but I would try and find some new O-Rings for them. PM Fab he knows the 414 inside and out. Be prepared to get through a set of tyres each meeting. |

Thanks guys, but I'm already lost what's a "tweaked" chassis? Also as for tyres are they all the same or is there some better than others?

They will probably be running a control tyre(rubbers), otherwise find out what works at the track it's at normally.
What body restrictions are there? regular TC bodies or only older TC bodies? Tweak, once you have the ride height and droop set (oh yeah droop too lol), you lift each end of the car with a knife from the middle and see which wheel leaves the ground first, ideally they should leave at the same time, you can fix it using a combo of droop screws and/or small changes to the shock collars.

Tweak causes the car to understeer one way and oversteer another.
When rebuilding the car use a flat piece of glass lie the chassis plates on it and make sure the chassis decks do not rock on it. One issue with the tamiya suspension is the hinge pins if the pins are ever so slightly bent it causes the wishbones to bind a causes the car to handle odd. I would advise getting new hinge pins and making sure the wishbones drop under there own weight. |

Thanks guys I've been doing slot of reading up I'm going to wait to get them then strip them down and take it from there. One of the reasons I went for the 2 was I'm sure I can build one good one from the 2 and have a load of spares too!

The big problem with the 414 are the bulkheads. The bearings are mounted in them and it's near impossible to get them out. You can fit TA04 parts for some of the more consumable items. It was a nice car in its day though, I still have one or two so feel free to PM me if you have questions.
I'm also going to the iconic meet
