Motor turn for 2wd buggy
I plan to race 2wd next year as well as 4wd and was wondering what turn motors people here put in there 2wd buggies. I know not all motors are the same and it's mostly down to the kV rating but what turns and kV ratings are you running. I can't decide whether to get a 6.5T or 7.5T.
A 6.5T is 6750 kV A 7.5T is 6200 kV |

8.5T is quite enough, 7.5 is a bit hot, not much but can increase mistakes (and I use to run 7.5, now 8.5).
7.5 is a bit more fun as you got speed but most of the time you'll be quicker overall maybe even lap times with a lower turn. 6.5 is way too much unless you're Houdini behind the wheel, even more mistake and breakage at some point for sure. 2wd -> slow is fast, no need to overpower every corners. I'd go for a 7.5 or 8.0 to start with, it's a common winding for a 2wd. No idea what KV rating mine are, it's all about linear, consistent power deliver in my opinion.
As a guide at the East of England regionals I ran an 8.5 at Ware (Herts), ARC and NBC as they are technical tracks and I used a 6.5 at Boughton and Colchester. A 6.5 in 2wd is generally over the top in power terms for a 2wd and won't make it easy as you learn the different driving style required from racing your 22-4, as you won't be able to just punch it out of the corners! What 2wd are you thinking of getting?

Thanks guys for the feedback, this is very helpful as motors are expensive I don't want to buy the wrong one. So 6.5T is off and perhaps 7.5T too.
I'll probably end up getting a 8.5T. I have a Kyosho Rudebits DB2 Jon. Looking forward to getting it on the track. Simon |

If your at NBC on Sunday you can do a couple of laps with my 22, to give you an idea of what an 8.5 is like in a 2wd. As you know I rarely have a slow car!
Vampire also do midway winds like 7.0 and 8.0 so that would also be something to consider. Good luck with the DB2, they look pretty smart, although never seen one in the flesh as it were.

Yes your car is always very fast!
Thanks for the offer Jon, but I'm currently in Seattle and fly to Boston this afternoon so won't be in the UK over the weekend. I'll try to make the next meeting whenever that one is and I'll bring my car so you can see it. |
