Default Oswestry National

Hello Everyone, Thought that we would start a thread for this.

The main reason is that we are currently thinkin about track design and the features for the track this year, and we are thinkin about gettin the materials.
This is a small request for the drivers ideas for jumps and features. Some of you may know that we are NOT aloud to do permenant changes to the grounds so the feature must be removable and multi directional for the two track days. Please can you get me any ideas preferably before the 15th Feb, and send them to the icemike@oswestryrcc.org let me know if there is a problem with that address.

Thanks

Mike

Default Ideas

Try and not make the jumps random, these cars may be offroad but do not mean they need to be sent vertical at any occasion. If the jumps are do - able then the race wil be won by the best driver and not the elements of the track.

The closer the racing the more chance to actually see who is the best

Please no. Mike, these do not work IMHO. If the thing needs turning round there are plenty of us there to help. I good up ramp does not make a good down ramp IMHO. I like Millzy's idea of the movable kicker.

If you need any help, just ask.

Agreed with G, down slopes should be 2x as long as an up ramp, surely that was evident from last years table top in front of the rostrum. I usually like a good bit of table top action but i dreaded that thing in both directions.

A section where you can gamble and go big to make up a bit of time would be good or play safe and be consistant. This would produce good racing in the finals IMO

ie, a triple, or 2 table tops one after the other.

If you fancy making a triple, what I would do is making both end ramps as kicker humps and the centre as equal sided hump this will allow for the triple to be jumpable from both directions. Then on the day place a board (or two giving the width we need) about 4ft longer than that days end kicker on its peak point thus changing the angle and giving you a smooth down ramp that can be easily unscrewed picked up and placed the on the other kicker for the 4wd running the other way

simples yes

The idea behind your double last year was good, however, I thought it was a bit steep both on the take off and landing. Perhaps something similar but make it a tripple or even a quad, but make the humps about the same height as last year but a lot shallower.

I also liked the table top but as Northy says maybe you could make the downramp longer than the upramp, makes for a much more consistent feature. IMHO downramps should be no steeper than 30 degrees.

Mike you have openned a can of worms as race co-ordinator im in charge of track design and if there are any jumps that are not fit i will be first there with my can of petrol and a match. Dont worry guys this years national track will be the best there has been.

As I won't be doing nationals this year I'm not going to get too involved with this thread other than to say speak to GingerFixIt (Andy Bell) on here. Having raced at both Worksop (last years indoors) and Newbury (MK GP plus several others) I feel, and it is only my opinion, that theflow of the jumps at Newbury is vastly superior to anything else I have raced on (certainly indoors).

Might be worth a quick chat with Lee Martin too.

Andy will point you at the formulas used to create the perfect kicker and landing area for a given jump, all based on MotoX data.

The comment about making too sided features is also valid, the qualities of a good kicker and a good landing area are VERY different.

Just my 2 pence worth.

Building jumps can be trial and error.
You should get them built well before the National and have your local drivers try them and then adjust them till they are right.

Or you could get Alan Hart to try them and if he can jump them they will be ok!!!!, oh and please tell him I said this when you see him!!!
