Yeap, raced with the original 3.8 twin carb straight 6 manual, been tld its the 3 core plug version, very rare engine, not too sure on that though, all i no is that i was pulling away from alot of the new xj6's with bigger manual engines quite easily

Is it an actual race, or simply last car running wins?
Was the xk150 not eligible for this vintage race with armour as mentioned on the pistonheads thread? Full of questions, I am...

actaual race mate, 15 laps and contact is encouraged, theres even a flag put out telling drivers they cant overtake with out hitting car infront as race is becoming to 'roddy' (too little contact) , then last race is demoliation derby, last car staanding bassically, not too sure on this vintage race you said about, you referring to a banger race or another form of racing?

To your other comment saying that you no someone who would have paid £10,000 for a shabby looking one, like some one said earlier, i think there an 'idiot' for paying that much money for a bad conditioned one and that is just my opinion mate. You wernt there when me and my 'pikey' mates, as they are repeatedly called, went to pick up the Jaguar Xk150, so you really have no idea what condition the car was in, yes it didnt have any rot on it and yes the body panels were in very good condition, but it was also missing an awful lot, both doors, bonnet, boot, we had to cut the roof off!, wheels wernt with it, no interior apart from the dash, no lights, there just a few things that were not with the car when we got it. Us 'pikeys' who do 'pikey racing' do no a thing about what a classic car is worth, and once i had to cut the doors and roof off it, in our opinion it was past financially viable to put back together and road worthy again, even some one who owned a convertable version came up to our yard to see it and said it was a shame but after the roof was cut off the car was past it. This is no way me trying to have a dig at you, as even i no it was a shame to race it and i was driving it! Im just tryin to explain how 'in our pikey-minded opinion' the car was past it when we got it, and all the work weve put into it was just to get it race worthy. At the end of the day, it was our car to do what we liked with, i enjoyed the day greatly, the car WILL be going out again as it is still driveable and thats all that matters to me, aslong as i enjoyed myself im not too fussed what other people think.

Mate if i was you i would take the engine out and flog it on and put something out of something more available that way you could get alot of money back to fund future cars to race?
That way some one would be able to put a running engine into a good nick shell to make a complete car? |

Most of the reason car survived so well col was because it was too quick to catch And in 2nd race throttle linkage popped off on warm up lap

So what about the classics that you see laid up on peoples driveways that are just crumbling to dust? Usually owned by classic car "enthusiasts" who would rather it end its days rotting to a worthless piece of rusty tin than sell it to someone who would at least give it the chance to go out in one final blaze of glory. In the words of Highlander - "better to burn out, than fade away!"
Some of the cars I've see raced have had so much work done to them just to get them back out on track it's unbelieveable - and far more work than your average classic car buff is willing to put in. Perhaps in the case of the XK150 it was borderline as to whether it should have been raced or not - but then again it was his car to do with as he pleased and fair play to him having the nads to race it against much bigger XJ's and Mk10's etc. Anyway - this banger enthusiast is back to his "pikey" day job as a management accountant.............

I like classic cars and although it is a shame to see such a pretty car get bashed, it's your property for you to do what you want with and racing it, as someone else has said on here, is better than it gathering dust and rotting.
I used to have a 1972 MGBGT and I got abuse from people for making it my everyday car, doing things like making it take unleaded, removing overriders, changing the interior and even making it more reliable by moving the battery into the engine bay eliminating the need for the 2 x 6V batts under the rear seat! It still looked very much original but enthusiasts weren't keen. There will always be people who disagree with your decisions but as long as you enjoy it that's what matters, I certainly enjoyed my MG! Cheers, Dan p.s. I like the colour! |
