Was wondering how other people's diffs have gone together?. Mines very notchy,no where near as smooth as the TM2 diff.
Any tips to make it better.?. Phill

Put in a second gasket.
Pre thread the 4 x diff screws Dont over tighten the diff screws, just tighten enough to get even pressure across the gasket. The screw heads should be just flush with the moulding. Silky smooth!

Also, make sure not to get any excess diff oil in the screw holes. Eventually leads to a leaky diff

Cheers for that. I've got two coming in the post so I'll do that tomorrow. I've had it out three times and each time it's gone back the same.

Hi Phil
If the diff is notchy before fitting to the gearbox, then check both washers (T02154 5.1 x 13 x 0.2) for burrs. Removing any burrs really frees up the diff. If it's notchy after bolting the gearbox to the motor plate then screws may be over-tightened. Thanks Mike |

It's notchy when I turn the diff in hand. I'll give it a re-build again tomorrow and put the new gasket in.
Don't really want to run a ball diff as I've got geared in my other cars.

Steve, put a ball diff in there...... It's a low grip car. Will be so much better with the ball diff. Mine is class. Either the tc02c diff but shimmed out ALOT! Or B5m diff fits.

We have try a second gasket , but gear blow in 2 minutes on high grip ,then try with a second gasket from a B5 ( who is thinner .........but the same , striped gear .
So finally i play with the dremel and remove some material on the outside of all the gear and now we have a smooth diff action . jm |

Mine also was very tight when in hand and rotated by twisting outdrives. Mine did not make it in the gear box. I also fitted a B5M Ball diff. Perfect fit in gear box and also driveshafts in outdrives.

Mine was tight and notchy but after a meeting or two it freed up and seems fine. Not leaking at all too.

Took it apart this morning, cleaned it out and put new gasket in(old one was split)with fresh oil. Still slightly notchy but it's only had ten races so I'll give it another try this weekend.
I'm running on carpet with it so high grip. Hopefully as adey says about his,it will free up over the next couple of meetings. Phill

You can very lightly use some fine wet and dry on the back face of the side gears too free it up but I didnt bother as Kev lee advised me it would be fine. I use 5k diff oil on carpet and it seems fine. I did use some Tamiya anti wear grease on both sides of the gasket to ensure no leaking though. I found it's important not to over fill the diff though.

On another note. I found the clutch to be very inconsistent and hard to accurately adjust. I modified mine and spaced the motor plate over by around 5mm to move the motor more towards the centre line. I also have modified the battery strap and gearbox support so I know have adjustable chassis flex. A small spring loaded screw through the battery strap allows more or less flex.

I've put 5000wt in for carpet but I will be running it at worksop a week on Sunday so I'm going to change it to 2000. Surface there is low grip,I may even decide to put 1000 in,not made my mind up yet.
Kev Lee has put this pic up of his Evo on Facebook.

I spoke to Kev about doing this but I feel my method is neater, easily adjustable and doesn't hinder the battery strap at all. I wish I could upload some pics but I can't.
