Which LiPo battery?
Hi, just bought a traxxas slash and want to get some spare lipo batteries but don't know which ones to get.
What mah? What C? Do I get. Looking for a long run time without sacrificing performance. I'm new to all this so any info is appreciated. Thanks. |

Li-po's
All depends on how you are going to use the car, bashing or racing ?
The higher the Mah ( milliamp hour ) rating = longer run time The higher the 'C' rating = how much current ( amps ) the battery will put out. If you are bashing, lower 'C' numbers like 20 - 35 C will be fine just aim for as much capacity as possible within your budget. If you are racing, Higher 'C' numbers like 40 - 90 C will be better as the pack will give out more power, but also best to get higher capacity packs. Some examples of what you might see on a pack :- 2200mah 20C. Low capacity - runtime short. 20C. Lower current output This would be hopefully now be a really cheap pack of Li-po's. 5300mah 40C Over 2x capacity of the 2200's with 2x current output This would now be a 'middle of the road' pack of Li-po's. 6000mah 90C Not much more capacity than 5300's but still an improvement on runtime but a big jump in 'C' rating. These would be the 'Bugatti Veyron' of Li-po's and come priced accordingly. Best to see what your local model shop has first and or the Trade section of Oople as bargains come up most days ! I am not going to say buy from overseas but there are bargains to be had if you look in the right places and are prepared to wait a week or two. This is just a simple guide and no doubt someone else will write a better explanation. |

Just to confuse thing: High capacity cells with a low C rating might actually be able to deliver higher peak currents than a low capacity, high C pack. However, just because cells can deliver the current, it doesn't mean they will as the current drawn depends on the motor and gearing to a large extent.
