You can get carpet tape but I think you willl want something a little thicker like what you have for some impact protection, or you can try the black tac
(like blue tac) but better

I use this acrylic VHB Gel tape, 1mm thick, and its perfect for RC: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Double-Sid...item27caddc53f.

They do other sizes: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Specialist-...=p4634.c0.m322

They also do a thin 0.2mm version, but i've not used it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Quality...item6fcf358f91

I'd say you'd want the 1mm thickness as it offers some cushioning to protect against shock. I've never had this VHB gel tape come unstuck, but it's simple and clean to remove when you need to part the surfaces with a screwdriver or blade to break the bond. It's the same stuff as the LMR tape.

The MIP MXT-1 stuff is very thin (like a thick sheet of paper) if that is any use (MIP08117 - £3.09)

+1 to this, it's brilliant stuff. You can even reuse it a couple of times for lighter things (e.g. to move a transponder between cars), and when you want to pull it off it comes off in one piece leaving no residue behind.

I've lost count of the number of hours (and amount of thumb skin) lost removing normal double-sided tape from parts.
