Alcyon ive found a solution to the layshaft issue and means no change to the design. I need to find a thrust race for the layshaft and as there is a lot of shaft space available it will fit perfectly. I just added one half mm washer and i got a perfect slip last night and was on the pace against a couple of top forty uk racers, even though my weight balance wasnt right on the chassis and the driver kept crashing due the slipper performed faultlessly. Really impressed with it. My motor was the reason that the spurs stripped last time and didnt damage one last night so not a machining error on you layshaft.

You need to machine or file the top side to achieve 19mm in total height, then you can use it for the lazer zx, zx-r.

i got fed up of stripping OT-16s so i took 2 plastic knuckles of my Kawada touring car, ground off 1mm from top and bottom and placed them in. they fit perfectly now but havent testted them on the track yet. they also hold the wheel bearings better.

I believe the OT-16 is now plastic so that would have been a direct fit for you

I havent yet but put a washer in front of the spring and that gave me that little more tension on the slipper at full lock. There is enough thread left to add a thrust race in same place and giving more tension when needed. When done i will show.

I am not sure how much materials are needed to be removed.
The knuckles comes with the top part being a little longer, that's where you need to take materials off. Take off as much as needed to achieve the same height as the bottom side, or when the full height is 19mm. I will show picks later.

I would probably have to sand on using a block as I don't have a lathe so wanted to know if that was possible or too much material has to come off to be able to do it that way.

I used a milling machine to do it. As for how much material to get away, subtract 19mm to the height of your OT-16, then you will know how to to take away

My mechanic has a lathe but I'm not sure if we could hold it in the lathe without damaging the anodised surface

My only source for parts is eBay and Oli4KE so I am not very useful in that regard. I do havena used LWB Optima Mid chassis that I will be polishing and a used Lazer upper deck which appears to be a ZX-R MK2 item as the front and rear screws are further apart than on my Lazer-ZX. Other than that I have some new in packet vintage RC-10 parts

How much longer is a medium length gold shock compared to a short gold shock?

Long Arms of the Law
Welshy i need to pick your bbrains a bit. Tested my Laser-lised Mid today and found the car to be ok but i feel i am not having enough droop. Could you recommend any rod ends that are much longer than kyoshos but will fit into the lazer's arms? i beleive with droop ,i can cure my bump handling problems on outdoor rutty and bumpy tracks. also i have many optima mid arms and a A&L bearing knuckle, so i was thinking i want to go back using Optima Mid Arms. i wonder if you done any comparison on them , which one handles better? i broke one LA-26 front arm few months ago and i am now using MPP Lazer Arms, but they seem more flexible than the originals so i am worried if they will affect handling.

Alcyon i used the longest one kyosho did (possibly the zxr ones) but the other alternative i used for my zxs as the ball joints didnt help me i bought trf 511 shocks and job done as the shafts were slightly longer.
But the easiest alternative is to redesign your shock tower so making it shorter by a coulple off mm's. Wishbones Ive never tested mid arms so cant really help you but the lazer ones are almost unbreakable, well unless that is your using the carbon varients instead of the srandard versions. Cf wishbones are brittle whereas kevlar reinforced are very hard to break. Ive never had wishbones flex but if thats the case replace them.
