Hi All, Please find below my set up from the F2's at Eastrax. A good starting point for any astro/multi surface track.
Please note with reference to 'Hole' settings count them from the inside of the car. And also that I have Atomic Carbon towers fitted. Front Oil- 32.5 wt Schumacher Pistons- 2C Spings- Silver (70) Wishbone- Hole 2 Tower- Hole 3 Ride Height- Wishbone quite a bit below level Camber- 1 deg Inner link- Hole 2, no washer. Outer link- Hole 1 Kick up- 30 deg Weight- 35-40g in bulkhead/front end Tyres- Sch Yellow mini spikes with outer row cut off Inserts- None Holes in wheels- 2x 3 mm Rear Oil- 25 wt Schumacher Pistons- 2B Springs- Blue (68) Wishbone- Hole 2 Tower- Hole 4 (if using kit tower, use outer hole) Ride Height- Drive shaft just below level Camber- 1 deg Inner link- Hole 3, 2mm washer Outer link- Hole 2 4mm washer Wheel base- Medium Hex- 2mm washer between hex & wheel Wing- Standard wing, centre on tower with 0 deg plate Tyres- Sch Yellow mini spikes with inside and out side row cut off Inserts- Schumacher Medium Green Inserts Holes in wheels- 2x 6mm Other Info Cells- Orion 4200 SHO in centre position Motor- Orion 6.5 Gearing- 21/Kit For grass tracks my usual starting point is as above but 2.5 wt harder on the oil. Unfortunatly I never ran mine at Worksop Mr Bond so can't really help there. But you could use my set up as a starting point.

I can do better and give you karl's finishing setup...
Front: Light green #75 spring 30wt (ae) 2C piston Middle hole on tower, outside on arm Inner link inside +1mm shim, outer link, inside hole 1 Deg camber 0 Deg toe Rear: Blue #68 spring 25wt (ae) 2B piston Middle on tower, outside on arm Innerlink outside + 2mm shim, outer link outside hole + 2mm shim 1° camber All else kit standard. Karl wasn't completely happy with the car espeially the rear, and thought the silver springs as I ran in the finals would be a good idea to try. |

However, What I think was correct regarding the piston was that they were actually the 3B ones. Now I should know, but I ran 25wt all round, as they felt stiffer than the kit 2B pistons fitted to Bond's car and Ian Robinson's. Go kit, but with 30wt next time as a starting point. Use the out hole on the rear wishbone, and the stiffest springs. Silver Fab says 2mm under the front inner caber position, not 1mm. If you run Lipo, weight the car up. Hope this helps, and if not, come a say hello if I am there next time. I have not raced off road for over 6 years Mike, and seriously for over 3, so I just think I ran out of time to be honest and coul dnot do everything I wanted to do in 1 day without no practise. On the whole, the RB5 was excellent, easy to drive and I think yesterday's run is a good sign of the potential it has, and will hopefuly give more guys the confidence to go out and try one. Most say it is more stable and easy to dive over the B4 who have changed, I think we have a car that will suit the majority of people, and I hope to see more around next time. Karl, I know you were using the 3 holes pistons but as you mentioned that kit setup would be a better idea that's what I put down.
On the rear end bit, you shortened the rear link, but wouldn't it be a better idea to make it longer and maybe flatter to help the rear end slide a bit mid corner? |

well just got my Rb5 did the middle arm conversion. changed the factory diff balls and turnbuckles, The only problem i am having is getting the car to jump straight, Have tons of off power and on power stearing. Tons of traction,slight push still working on that. But wants to roll on jumps all the time still testing will post when setup is complete.

FRONT oil 35 wt losi piston 2c spring lime green 75 shock tower kit middle wishbone outer hole inner camberlink middle hole +1mm washer outer camberlink inner hole hub height low (washers above) kickup 25 degree's weight 10g on top of servo ride height wishbones below level REAR 08 velvet body, kit shaft oil 25 wt losi piston 2b spring mauve,blue (imt told 72 but not sure, spring that comes with the 08 rear end) shock tower 08 middle wishbone 08 inner inner camberlink outer hole no washers outer camberlink outer hole +2mm washers 08 hubs medium wheelbase (no height adjustment) rideheight driveshafts level wing in middle mount position NOTES shoulder cut off the front pivot balls for rear wishbones, 2 white washers placed behind wishbones to shorten wheelbase, car ran on nimhs but is normally on lipo with no additional weight (untill i check it on scales) cells in forward position kit wing with half gurney (flies very neutral) car very easy to drive with bundles of steering, fronts and rear minipins run full with mr O medium foams, when outside inner and outer row cut off the front, full rear with same inserts any questions feel free to ask

Looks very similar to my carpet set-up except
30g in front bulkhead, none near servo short not super short wheelbase (will be changed for MK GP to see how it goes!) Front springs losi black cut 1 1/2 coils Rear springs losi blues (too stiff really but wanted stiffer than orange and didn't have silvers) rear shock outer on stock tower (mid on Atomic tower I run) and out on wishbone, using 54mm shock shaft in rear (also the wider rear end but with normal length shocks and tower) oils AE35wt all round I am quite happy with this set-up at Dudley on all carpet (lapping about 0.1 off the fastest 4wd car in qualy which was a driver I should be competing with on level terms IMO). Will be going to Losi Silvers or Kyosho #80s (dark green) for MK GP as the slipper floor will require a little more rear roll. Might find I need even softer. The key to the RB5 I found earlier in the year is not to run the front too soft .... basically forget the inner holes exist on the wishbones! Basic outdoor set-up is similar to indoors other than Kyosho #70 (silver) springs all round and medium wheelbase + 2mm or so on ride hight all round. The only problem I find with the RB5 is it's tendency to tuck it's nose in a little deep as you come off power, then only on carpet / ultra high grip ..... loverly everywhere else!!!!! Not being of national A final grade like nathan is I need a safer car so the stiffer front springs help there a lot. In fact I think that I have over compensated with the rear spring until I ran the stiffer fronts, might be worth dropping a rate or 2 on slippier surfaces. |

This was my setup at the first (middle-)Swedish indoor series: Hit me!
What tires do you run with? I had problems finding the right front tires. I ran Schumacher mini pin in the rear. Tried mini pin in the front but I got a way to twitchy car. To much steering. The Proline 4-rib felt better when I found a setup with better steering but I still needed more steering. I am going to try Schumacher stagger. What do you think about that? |

We normally run Scumy mini pins on the front and rear (in yellow) and trim a row or two off if needed to calm the front end down. I don't think I've tried anything else indoors for a very long time!

I have run my RB5 a couple of times at Oswestry, which is made up of carpet and wooden floor.
This is my current set-up. Front. 35 cwt 2C piston 1.5 mm internal limiters Neon Yellow spring Inside hole of wishbone and no 3 hole on tower (AC) Wishbones level Camber link 2nd hole out on the inner mount (no spacers) and outside hole for the outer 25 deg castor Running a brass bulkhead Rear 25 cwt 3B piston Nil internal limiters. But I'm running longer rod ends, to increase droop and also meaning the spring adjuster is not at the end of the shock body thread. Blue (68) spring Outer hole on the wishbone and no 4 hole of tower (AC) Wishbones level Medium wheelbase Inner camber link in middle hole, nil spacers Outer camber link on outer hole, 2mm spacer Cells are run at the back Worn schumacher mini spike (full) front and rear. I find the car has plenty of mid and exit corner steering. It does hook its nose in if the power is taken off, but only on the high speed carpet section. I'm going to try a grade up on the front spring. |

Phil, great to see you running the RB5 too!!!!
I have found that running on the inner hole on the front wishbone is what causes the hook off power. Try the outer wishbone hole mate, let me know what you think. Oh by the way, running the front shocks at 20mm top of rod end to base of seal cartridge in the outside hole. Where did you get the brass bulkhead from? |

so these last setups are still good for carpet?
my rb5 is on its way from the states as we speak ordered schumis from models in motion on monday, but they still have'nt confirmed my order, any idea why? paid for with visa and everything.
