Ok I've applied that with firmware version 200 on the Cat SX. Will test later and work out what FDR I want etc.

Would you leave the settings for a 6.5 too as I may have a speed passion loaned to me.

yeah, to be honest, once set, you don't need to mess to much, it is only with the touring cars or running in a stock class, that you really need to hunt settings.

Default Dual Mode Problems

I have been using my Tekin RS-Pro in my X11-08, and the car has been dog slow....it's running an LRP Vector X11 6.5 motor. I have swapped the motor for a novak 6.5 and my other LRP 5.5, all the time the speed is rubbish and acceleration is lethargic to say the least.

So, I hooked it up to the hotwire and turned of Dual Mode, and left it as Sensored only - the car now is really rather quick. Would this indicate a problem with the firmware - I am running v198 as I can't get V200 to load on my PC, or do only Tekin motors run correctly on the dual mode setting?

I think it may depend a little on what timing is built into the motor, but they should be ok, I was running a Losi 6.5 for a while, and it wasn't slow.

My Losi 7.5 is silly quick with the Tekin and keeps up with 6.5 LRP X11 motors

I ran the V200 firmware and found that sensored only mode wasn't smooth at all and the turbo can't rarely be used as unless you are racing touring cars or have a stupidly long straight.

I was at Worksop and the speedo was over heating in sensored mode only. I put it back to V198 firmwave and back to dual mode with all the timing adjustments set at zero and it was amazing only 4 LEDs on the speedo.

If the car is sluggish then the timing is too advanced all you will do is suceed in wrecking the rotor with the heat. (When you hold the cursor over the slider bar ir warns you of the side efffects which is more timing less torque.)

Run the speedo in dual mode and make sure all of the timing is knocked down to zero (timing boost in sensored mode and timing advance in dual mode.) and you'll get all of the torque back and excellent top end.

As for the timing adjustments I would definately leave it at zero on the ESC for all motors and only adjust the timing on motor if the motor is designed with adjustable timing which the Novak isn't.

People seem to think that they can crank up the timing and they will go faster but you can't without losing elsewhere.

more timing = more heat
too much timing = motor fade and internal damage

I think the Tekin speedo is the best arround at the moment, people just need to understand how to adjust it properly.

There is no reason why you shouldnt get your LRP to fly. Have you messed about with the motor timing ?? (on the motor itself ?). The version 200 firmware did make a bid difference. So much so that i went from a 5.5 to a 6.5. Is there anyone local that has the ver.200 firmware ? Maybe they could upgrade it for you ?? I would be happy to if you were ever around the midlands area. Or if you wanted to post it i could upgrade it for you ??

I would run that with any mod motor in off-road, 10.5 I may run in sensored mode, depending on the track.

v203 will mostly affect those who run in Sensored Only mode, and give you more speed!

Thanks for all the replies guys, but nothing has changed with the performance of the car and it just "cogs" in dual mode.

At the moment, this is what I am running on the ESC:-

Version 200 - SENSORED MODE
Drag Brake = OFF
Reverse Strength = OFF
Brake Strength = 100
Neutral Width = 56
Motor Type = Brushless FWD/BRK
Throttle Profile = 3
Voltage Cut off = 2
Push Control = OFF
Timing Boost = 25
Turbo Boost = 0

I have set the timing boost to 25, as the motor advance points to 2 - the instructions say to aim for 30 degrees. The car does not cog in sensored mode but when the settings as suggested in this thread are applied to the car it cogs a lot when in Dual Mode.

Can anyone offer any advice on these settings?

Many thanks

turn your neutral width down to between 5 and 10

Chris, does your motor have a sintered or bonded rotor? If it's bonded, it might be why you are getting cogging in dual mode as the feedback to the speedo isn't as strong.

It's also worth checking that your motor sensors are working. You can check them by switching the speedo on with the motor connected and rotating the motor by hand. You should see 3 lights on the speedo flicker in turn as each sensor works.... Although if its working in sensored only mode these should be fine.

I was using Nosram motors (sintered) with the Speedo before the Tekin motors were available and I never had any issues.
