Yeah i know you made me an zxr chassi before for an kick up so shall dig in the archive of email and see where it is.
ill guess i need other stuff so i´ll be back to see what i need to be drawn. mvh isobarik |

I used a zxs plate, zxs front gearbox, homemade chassis connector plate, remade top deck which i have no longer got or drawings, i cant remember if I bent the plate more or less though. Tbh its more work than you want plus a headache to get it right. Ok i used a broken zxr tub which i cut away and filed by hand but was enough to do it.

Actually I recall i did the zxs front end as i tested the zxr front gearbox on a flat plate and the plate flexed and cracked the rear end of the gearbox, plus did cut one up on the idea of a kick up on the plate but when you do that you make the gearbox smaller so the diff cant rotate or fit correctly to make it work.

Yeah i want to do it with a new front gearbox the hard part the way i see it is to make an rear bracket for the hingepin since i dont have the knowledge to make an alu so has to be in carbon so i guess i have to figure it out.

Think you havent yaken into account you will have a big front gearbox and means a higher front gearbox so more movement so you need to design into it a strengthening block from one end to the top deck joining points as if relying on the kick up plate the flex will break the gearbox or the chassis. I think designing in a cf plate across the top may do it.

idea for new gear diff
Hi All,
I think this may be interesting to some of you. In an attempt to improve the gear diffs of my lazer ZX, I tried to fit the modern gears and joints of the optima 2016 into the lazer ZX diff case. I had to grind a bit of the inside of the case to get it to fit. Below are some pics. Ubi |

It would be really interesting if the geardiffs from thet ZX6.6 would fit. Those are oil filled like all modern cars. Then you can fill front with 10k oil and back with 8k oil like my XB4 2018
I'm pretty sure the new ZX (probably called 7) will have the geardiffs as standard. 6 & 6.6 where balldiffs in kit. But balldiffs are not anymore of today's power standards |

Not the case, i have used a 4.5 motor with a gear diff without issue other than wear rate on the cheap material out drives, but the ball diffs are still perfect with ceramic balls and tungsten thrust race.. If any oil gets in the car its not going to help the belts, i think a thick grease would be a better idea on your diffs, plus think the material will not wear out quickly like the standard zx outdrives.

idea for new gear diff
The outdrives fit the UJs. However they are about 0.8mm shorter than the old ones. This can be recovered by using longer UJ ends (the ones with 2 stripes in the 2nd pic) and some shims. Picture 3 shows the UJ position with the "standard" UJ end, while pic 1 shows that with the 2 stripe UJ end.

Looks good. Think a thick grease that doesnt thin under temperature would be a better option than oil.

I understand that the trend in modern cars is to have oil in the gear diffs. What is the advantage of oil vs grease?

I find the cars better with grease as it doesnt move so doesnt really cause an effect whereas having oil is like having a water ballon hanging in the middle of your gearbox so everytime you turn a corner the weight moves and kindof displaces a bit so puts the handling a bit off and does become noticable plus it leaks as well.
Using a thick grease that doesnt thin under temperature you get the same effect as oil but you dont need to maintain it as often. I prefer ball diffs in this car as the car works much better.
