Well I fell out of a tree today getting photos for this competition.... it's not easy.

Today was first (good) sunset I have had here since the competition started, but sadly my grandmother got rushed to hospital about 5pm today so I've had to stay at home and act as the information relay via phone. Hopefully things will be good for her, but I couldn't miss out on perhaps my only sunset before the date is up.

Not being able to leave home, I got creative and tried to make things look nice in my garden. Big garden but sadly loads of trees obscuring the sky. So, cordless phone in pocket, ZX-5 in one hand and very expensive camera in t'other I climbed a tree to get results. It turns out it's hard to keep track of your balance looking through a viewfinder. A sore bum and broken wishbone on the Kyosho prove that, fortunatly I saved my camera. Ironically the photos from in the tree weren't great either looking at them now!

We better have more sunny evenings!

That is extreme! dedication, that's what it's all about!

I'm sorry about the lack of time guys - but I'm confident we'll all have a chance to get some nice photos! I'm going to do one of course

James, love that photo! it's mad!

Glad your camera is ok Jason, and hope your Gran makes a fast recovery.

For those who are struggling to get the right photos, just bear in mind that this isn't going to be judged based on who has got the best camera, it's all about who can be the most creative with what they have.

Anyone who is concerned about the rubbish weather we've been having, I chose sunsets because many rainy days that we've had this year have turned into really nice evenings. Really though, be creative with light... the sun doesn't have to be in the photo, but dramatic lighting caused by the setting sun / weather conditions. See what you can come up with. Also, sunrise - what's that? I don't wake up early enough to see the sunrise, but if you get dramatic lighting first thing in the morning, see what you can achieve from that.

There's no harm in entering the competition is there, no-one has won yet, and it's the competitors who judge the competition.

So... happy snapping!
x

Sunrise is often far better for taking pictures as the air is clearer so you get less haze and raised dust so you get nice colourfull light a lot more often... there is that getting up bit to taking pictures then though .

I went home a little earlier today so I could get to the park with Nagoya castle before dark (way too early in japan).
The castle ground has a big wall and some water round it... sunset, 30 degrees c and water; BAD combination: after I made 3 mediocre pics, I already had 9 mosquito bites
