It will protect transmission and motor against shock and vibration, but may also be intended to prevent tweaking.

Seal the gearbox from ingress of dirt/sand. Also stop metal to metal interference again with ingress of dirt/sand/moisture.

Body looks like a tight fit so I doubt a gear cover will be missed much.

If it was an open bottomed gearbox but it's not and it's under the motor plate brace as well.

I've heard those rubber gasket have a role beside the flat gearbox on how the car handles, giving maximum traction yet an easy car to drive.

So it must allow a slight flex, interesting.

It'll be good if it works as there doesn't look like the chassis has much give in it especially with the sides being angled rather than the usual flat plate.

i always seal the bottom on my bmax2 with tape, cut to shape and stuck to bottom of gearbox case. have done since the first rebuild of my v1 after i ran it outdoors.

Not sure of thinkness of this gasket, but i can't see why its there for flex? it would surely mention it in the manual?

It won't make the chassis more flexible, the number of screws holding the drivetrain components is still the same. Maybe there is a little more flex in the upper suspension components attached to the gearbox due to the rubber pads under the gearbox, but that's about it.
When one of AE's touring cars (TC5?) came out and the topdeck was too thick for rubber tyres and tarmac tracks, people made the car more flexible by placing O-rings under the topdeck screws IIRC. Do you think such a rather thin rubber pad close to a machined aluminium chassis plate will affect handling as much?

On a similar way, the O-Ring under the battery plate...
They have taken lot of attention on torsion aspect I think...

Possibly to stop vibrations in the drivetrain transferring to the chassis, which could affect handling? The gasket is too thin and will be screwed up tight and compressed to allow for any amount flex between the gearbox/motor plate and chassis.
