AGM minutes:

Mid-East Off-road AGM – 16/12/19

Regional Rep’s Report – 2wd showed marginal gains in numbers over 2018 in particular there were larger numbers in the open heat at 2wd rounds giving an overall gain. 4wd showed a much larger increase in numbers over the previous year, the net result over the year as a whole was a 10% gain in attendance which is to be applauded and gets the region much closer to neighbours such as Mid-West and North-East. There was a noticeable increase in junior numbers, particularly Under 16 which was poorly supported in the past. Despite issues such as “tyregate” at round 1 and grumblings over heat listings, Shaun Thompson hasn’t been deterred and has signed up for another year.

Treasurer’s Report – The region started the year with £212 in the bank and with an income of £1132 and an expenditure of £855.20, the majority of which was for trophies throughout the year, meaning this season’s starting figure will be £488.80. It was commented that the new pricing structure of £12 adults with free entry for juniors appeared to be working well and that would remain the same for 2020. The conversation turned to ideas for using the surplus funds, two ideas put forward are some Mid-East banners to be put up at race meetings to give them a more professional feel and to be in the background of junior trophy presentation photos. Another idea is to upgrade the BBK software so that a separate screen can be outputted to the rostrum to assist with refereeing duties. Both of these options will be investigated by the committee.

2020 Race Dates – Robinhood Raceway hosting the Euro’s and BMR hosting Oople and Iconic RC Revival events have had an impact on available dates and venues. Therefore the Provisional race Calendar is as follows:

April 5th – 4WD Round 1 BMR (postponed until May 10th)
May 2nd 2WD Round 1 BMCC
May 3rd - 4WD Round 2 BMCC
May 24th – 2WD Round 2 A1
June 7th 2WD Round 3 WBMCC
July 5th – 4WD Round 3 WBMCC
August 2nd – 4WD Round 4 A1
September 13th – 2WD Round 4 BMR
September 19th – 4WD Round 5 RHR (Astro)
September 20th – 2WD Round 5 RHR (Astro)
2020 Tyre Rules – There had been some significant changes to the tyres available at National level over the last couple of years with the Schumacher Cactus Fusion proving popular on 4wd and the introduction of Proline Pyramid tyres at some national tracks this year. In the past, the region has always tried to restrict the choices so that drivers are not obliged to carry around multiple sets of tyres in case one performs better than another. However with more and more drivers competing in nationals as well as regionals it was felt there was a need to align closer to national rules. Voting of those present took place with the following outcomes:
• 2wd front tyre to remain open as before
• 4wd front tyre to become open as per national rules
• 2wd and 4wd rear tyre can be either Schumacher Mini Dart, Ballistic Buggy Spike or Proline Pyramid in any compound.

Election of Officers – The following posts were taken up:
• Regional Rep – Shaun Thompson
• Treasurer – Paul Nutten
• Public Relations Officer – Darren Wells
• IT Officer – Lee Hewson
• Driver’s Rep – Simon Smith
• Junior Rep – Ben Smith
• Head Referee – Matthew Moore
• Club reps will be Paul Nutten (WBMCC), Andy Hicklin (BMCC), Dave Dodd (BMR), Chris Spendlove (A1) and Eugene Galley (RHR)

MEWS update – The 2018/19 inaugural Mid-East Winter Series showed real promise with numbers averaging the mid 20’s mainly across the 2wd/4wd buggy and rally classes. This season there has been one round at A1 and two at BMCC and numbers have only been in single figures. The main reason for this seems to be that last season’s numbers were mainly due to drivers from Mid-West region and despite avoiding their popular MAMS series dates, some of the venues have put on club meetings on the same dates as MEWS events. A1 and BMCC also decided to combine MEWS with their own series this year with the net result being unsustainable numbers. Therefore it was decided to run the championship to its conclusion on 29th March and consider no series in 2020/21.

AOB – A motion was raised to extend the end of season trophies to include the top F1, F2, F3, F4 and F5. The aim being to give drivers further down the field something to race for. Motion passed

Heat listings were a contentious issue this year so it was decided to create some hard and fast rules to suit drivers of all abilities that have supported the series as well as new comers. The heat listings will therefore be created as follows:
Rounds 1 and 2 will be based on the previous year’s championship. Any new comers to the region will be placed according to their F grading where they will be placed at the bottom of their grade. Rounds 3 onwards will be based on a driver’s average score over the rounds they have contested. Any new comers will be placed in heat 1 with only exceptional circumstances considered (for example if Neil Cragg turns up).

Championship points were discussed, the current system of points for qualifying and finals is at odds with other regions and nationals where one point is scored for TQ and all other points given out based on final position. After a vote, it was unanimously agreed to adopt the national scoring system.

Track Layouts were discussed with the agreement that all clubs would present a largely new layout prior to a regional. Running an existing track the opposite way round does not constitute a new layout.

Despite Rob Jaques’ best efforts, the website and pre-booking system is in need of an overhaul. To try and take the pressure off Rob whilst he is convalescing, Shaun agreed to look into alternatives with Lee Hewson.
