I'm probably alone in thinking this is a good thing, based purely on the fact that I've never driven on their grass track but have had loads of time on the astro.

Grass track was only really used for F3,4,5 Finals for elecrric so not many people have practiced on the grass.

I think the grass track is awesome to drive on. it shouldnt matter that it has to be on the astro track because thats wot most people have practices on. its the best part of racing being on a new track with new things to learn about it. thats wot shows the best drivers because they can adapt.

"Grass track was only really used for F3,4,5 Finals for elecrric so not many people have practiced on the grass."

Which is precisely why it would be fairer to run on the grass.

Bear in mind it's a regional meeting and not a Coventry club meeting, and also that practice is restricted to Coventry club members only.

Running on the Astroturf will favour local drivers heavily.

Not every club has an astroturf track. - Most people have access to grass though.

do they? were????

astro track has been used throughout the winter series so practise has been available. they held a meeting on it sunday just gone so your arguement doesnt hold up..

However i would have prefered the grass but hey ho will happily run on the astro

This will be a Regonal meeting, meaning that most of the drivers attending are from the 'Region'. Coventry run meetings through the year with the MAM series along with club meetings, also club members do get to practice at the track (which is obviously an advantage of being a 'club member'). Most of the drivers coming to the regional have raced on it over the winter, some drivers have joined the club to practice setting cars up. There is no unfairness in it at all, the track has been there for years allowing people to practice there at meetings. If you dont choose to utilise it then its hardly the clubs fault is it

Hmm. Not sure I agree with all of that, but don't want to get into a big argument.

Posted this on the other thread, but no answer.

Will there be a 2wd class at this meeting?

(The old east mid regionals always used to have a 2wd class at 4wd regionals but couldnt see an option on the entry form.)

why not? 100% accurate.

track has been down and available to run on for years....at least 4 non club meetings have been run on it over the winter...

losixxx, I meant I disagreed with the philosophy not the facts.

Just to give fuller explanation of where I'm coming from.

When I used to run East midlands regionals a few years back all the tracks were grass. They were all set up for the day, and nobody got more than a single 5 minute practice run on the day of the event. - The track was new for everybody and there was zero home track advantage.

Yes it is possible to attend other meetings on the astroturf at Coventry, but a permanent track will always give a home advantage. (For the record I'm a Coventry member as of last week.)

+ I think the grass is a lot better

but you can say the same for most Mid-West tracks, kiddy, ledbury, oswestry, coventry are all permanet tracks that give some advantage to regular users...but IMO the results would 99.9% of the time be the same what ever track is run..

I've never run on the Astro at Cov before, but have seen it, looks like there's plenty of layout options, presumably the layout for this weekend will be unique?

I'm not fussed which surface, but am surprised it's astro just because all the previous regionals I've done were on the grass!

Are schu yellows still order of the day and will any shops be there with Ballistics in case it's wet?

In fact, while on questions what time is booking in/practice??

Is there any possiblity of running it on the Grass, obviously weather permitting?

Im not attempting to cause an argument, just thinking with Talywain not far away would be good practice for most people?
