Default Team Durango DEX408 - Which components

Morning

I've pre-ordered a DEX408 from JeSpares, a little Christmas present to myself..

Anyway I'm thinking about which components to stick in to the car, at the moment I'm thinking about using the following:

Motor / ESC - Tekin Rx8 Esc & T8 2050kv Motor
Radio Gear - Spektrum DX3S V2 3CH DSM
Batteries - 2 x Turnigy nano_tech 5000mah 2S 45-90C Lipo
Servo - Spektrum Digital High Torque Metal Geared Servo
Tyres - Don't know yet idea's welcome..

So I'm wondering if the components above are the right ones for the job? Or if theres anything I've forgotten?

I do a bit of racing with colleagues on a private work track at 1:10th scale so I'm totally new to 1:8th. I'm hoping that the class will pick up in the UK as theres lots of car's around now.

All sounds pretty good, but a lot depends if you want to start racing at a 1/8th track etc.

I do a bit of racing with colleagues on a private work track at 1:10th scale so I'm totally new to 1:8th. I'm hoping that the class will pick up in the UK as theres lots of car's around now.

A lot of people are saying that the 1900kv motor is plenty powerful enough, the 2050 is delta wound and thus well suited to large high speed tracks whilst the 1900 is star wound and will have a bit more bottom end grunt.
You could also wait and see what price the new LRP iX8 esc is, just another option. Not heard of anyone who's got one yet though.

You could also look at the Gens Ace batteries from giantcod.co.uk 5000mAh 50C cells at £35.44 each. This is then from a UK distributor and many people are saying their better than the Nano-techs. GiantCod have a forum with some independent testing done on different cells, well worth a look.

Not sure about the Spektrum servo, most people use Savox. Have a look at a 1256 or even a 1232, they might be cheaper and/or better spec than the Spektrum. Look for 20kg torque for steering.

Tyres will depend on what surface your running on.

as for kit here are my suggestions..

Motor / ESC - Tekin Rx8 Esc & T8 2050kv Motor
Radio Gear - futaba 4PL
Batteries - 2 x Turnigy nano_tech 5000mah 2S 45-90C Lipo
Servo - Orion Vortex High Torque Metal Geared Servo
Tyres - Dboots A compound

Spektrum radio systems can be tempermental at times and feel cheap and flimsy, 4PL is in another league IMO

I know it's a truggy, but I've put a XErun system in my 6T. For £130 you can't go wrong. I'm using Nano tech 6000 4s which I know won't fit yours but hobby king have a just released a 2s 6600 Nano tech, if there anything like my 6000 they'll be good.

One thing to look out for when choosing an esc for 1/8th electric is that most only have a 3A BEC which can struggle to power a half decent servo. The Tekin RX8 has a 5A and the LRP iX8 has a 6A BEC that showed be more than enough.
If you do get an esc with with only a 3A BEC there are ways around the issue like using a separate BEC, or using a high voltage servo and then wiring the power side of the servo up directly to one of the Lipo's but this could give a small issue of one pack being discharged slightly more so could take longer to balance. Both of these will also result in a less tidy install off course.

Were did you come up with that idea? Spektrum radios are among the best. They dont feel 'cheap or flimsy'

I have had both the Dx3r pro and the 4pl. Both felt the same. I did prefer the screen on the 4pl though, but liked the drop down wheel on the dx3r pro.

Thanks for the great feedback there guys..

I've revised my list as follows:

Tekin Rx8 Esc & 1900kv Motor
2 x Gens Ace 5000mah 50C 2S Hard Case Lipo pack
SC1256 Savox SC-1256 Coreless Digital Servo

I'll use my current radio gear and try and get a go with someone elses before I decide which way to upgrade.

I'm looking for a UK shell painter now as my previous attempts have led me to understand I'm not up to much when it comes to painting.

Sounds seriously good.
Love the Durango car. Its my 2nd favourite
Keep us updated on the build etc.

For painting i would use Outlaw graphics ( prices are unbeatable)
http://outlawgraphics.webs.com/apps/blog/

Or Ian. Seen some amazing work from him.
http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81411

But anyone who paints your shell on his forum will be good.

Thanks.

Ian (eyeayen) has just finished my Serpent 811be shell, and you can see pictures of it in pages 4 and 5 of his thread here http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81411

His work is simply outstanding.

Default Bits Ordered

Morning.

I've ordered my bits now - I'm quite excited.

I went for the import route on the batteries in the end, as I have some time to wait for the kit anyway. Heres the bits I'm waiting for.

Tekin Rx8 Bl Esc - 4030 Bl Motor 2.5d 2050kv 1/8 Sys
2 x Turnigy nano-tech 6600mah 2S2P 65~130C Hardcase
Savox SC-1256 Coreless Digital Servo
Spektrum DX3S V2 3CH DSM

Pro-Line M3 - Crime Fighter 1:8th Off-Road Buggy Tyres

I'm talking to Ian about the paint job too

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.

Hi,
Choice of equipment would seem to be pretty good.
I run the Tekin Set-up you are propsing in my car at the minute and it's bomb proof. I have it on a 21 pinion. Which is a little on the undergeared side, but it's good for short track indoor racing.

Radio should be fine, make sure the servo has 15+kg of torque and somewhere around 0.1s 0-60 degrees time and you'll be good to go.

Cells. I run 4600 saddles in mine. It actual makes the wiring neater than running sticks.. I'll post a nice install pic on here when I remember!

Tyres: Depends on surface. For bashing about dBoots Mulitbyte will give you a good level of grip on all sorts of surfaces... Another good all round tyre will be an angle spike or such like...
