Retrofitting electrics to old IC cars?
I will have to profess I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to 1/8 IC cars but I have been contemplating converting an old Kyosho Burns 4WD from Nitro to electric.
Can anyone here confirm that this conversion is possible and what budget B/L systems are around that will do the job? Thanks in advance, Jason.

One problem would be finding a motor mount but your main problem would be your outdrive shafts and diffs.
B/L motors and systems pack a real punch and would kick the crap out of your diffs in no time. With a B/L system you can go from a standing start to flat out in a couple of seconds, can your old car take that, how much of your running system is nylon, how much is already worn. |

Hi Stumpy,
Thanks for your reponse to this thread. I am still yet to get my hands on one or two of these cars but from memory I thought they could hold up to a little use and abuse. My intentions aren't to race this car, nor beat the crap out of it. I figured I could look at a few economical B/L systems that allow for finer adjustments via software. I wasn't sure if there was a motor mount around that could make things a little easier to get a motor in place. I'm handy with fabricating stuff but anything I can't handle I can pass on to a friend who is very handy. Can you recommend a b/l system that might do the job at a reasonable price? I was thinking Hobbywing EZRUN or something.

pretty sure the burns is all steel gears anyway so that shouldnt be too much of a problem, just make sure they are shimmed fairly tight. ezrun 150A speed control is good, albiet quite chunky. i am using a 1400kv heli outrunner on 6 cell lipo, goes very well, might not be as quick as some but it is still much quicker than my nitro 1/8 and far easier to drive. the outrunner has loads of torque and helps make things quite smooth. have also fitted a slipperential and that makes the car a lot nicer to drive and more forgiving..... doesnt wheelie as much!!

Excellent.
I have been looking at some manuals for the old Burns, Turbo Burns and the original Inferno and it looks as though the centre bulk heads are the same or similar. I know the Inferno's is a little different but I was wondering if the modern day Inferno brushless conversion mount could be retrofitted on the Burns? Anyone know more about this?

Modern day INFERNO motor mount
There is an INFERNO conversion set and I was wondering if this motor mount would work on the BURNS/TURBO BURNS/INFERO (classic lot of cars).
Anyone know if this would work?
