Default YZ-10 Types

I've seen a lot of chat about various YZ-10's, and i was wondering how i'd figure out what mine is. Im guessing it's chassis related, obviously not a pavidis one as that seems to mostly consist of holes looking at the fibre lyte website

Mostly carbon on mine, apart from the shock towers, dont remember upgrading it much so i'm guessing it was like that out of the box, wasn't really my favorite car to drive to be honest

So any ideas which it is?

Looks like the 1994 YZ10 Super Dog Fighter, with optional WCS slipper clutch. The rear upper arm mount has the Pavidis Edition carbon fibre brace added, and Associated shocks.

Terry the chassis isnt a stock 94 one though, parallel cells, parallel top deck supports, looks a custom, or maybe a Fibrelyte WCS option, motor cut out too?

Yeah it's a '94 but ain't stock for sure...lots of carbon fibre. Top deck on the stock was frp. You have a tCS slipper so running a more powerful motor shouldn't be an issue. This wasn't on the stock version. Difficult to see what shocks you have though...the spring adjusters are yokomo type. Nice to see how this cleans up!

Shocks look Yokomo, looks like a Fibrelyte build TBH, using a Masami chassis?

Yup now I'm on my mac and not an iPhone, looks like somebody tried to do a loose based Masami, thats a Masami lower deck for sure, and it looks to have a rear tower reinforcement too, did you buy it as a kit and build, or was it used on purchase? More pics, but yeah looks to be a hybrid of various chassis parts!

Yeah thats the std fair on box art, odd the car is very modded, even your rear arms are drilled out, lot of different chassis parts, even carbon battery plates, which wasnt std on the OOB '94 AFAIK!

The standard chassis would look like this.

I know who built the chassis and how competitive Daz was at the time, so would expect to find Fibrelyte upgrades as standard like most racers added at the time. No racer would want to keep the fibreglass top deck when running on UK tracks and the TCS would not be that rare either, my Works 91 even had a Stealth slipper fitted to it.

Daz I can give you a better idea of exactly what's what next week when I can actually see it.

Shocks are associated as the yok ones didnt have the hex design. Looks great and brings back memories. i had a team version with the standard yok shocks (they worked ok with different seals in) and semi circular rear ball joint plate that Jon Leonard built me and also wasnt keen on it when racing even though i won a major event with it.

Terry, is that yours? If it is im jealous.

Mmm - this is very interesting... the car does look to have possibly been built from a 94' kit.... but using a 93WCS chassis plate + has quite a few nice upgrades as already pointed out.

That WCS chassis i'm sure is an original - not a modern Fibrelyte one - i'm intimately aware of every contour/hole on the 'standard' WCS & Masami option chassis that they produce.. since I drew them up! The added cut-outs in the chassis on daz75's car (beneath motor & spur) I guess were done by hand to emulate those that Masami had done in his own World's Winning car... 'my' version of the Masami chassis is narrower than the kit item - as this is what Masami had done also... this chassis looks to be the standard width?

The really interesting bit is how the front belt has been made to work with this arrangement... now its been a quite a long while since I restored my 93WCS... & i've not owned a 94 car... but in various e'mail discussions with fellow Oople & RC10Talk member 'YZ-10' it would seem that the distance between the layshaft & front diff is less on a 94 car compared with my 93WCS - so in order to run a 93WCS chassis on a 94 car without re-drilling the chassis (to move the whole rear gearbox assemblies forward) you would need a different/longer topdeck & belt!

The more I look at this car I come to believe that it started out life as a 93WCS - or at least as a collection of WCS parts. Not only does it have the WCS chassis, it has the same peculiar (WCS specific) size screws that secure the wishbone mounts both front and rear to the chassis - these were changed out for the larger (8/32) gold alloy AE screws in the 94 kit, it also has the rare four pronged lightweight alloy wheel adaptors that are a WCS specific item (not sure if they were ever offered as an option part?) & it also has one remaining RCPS turnbuckle on the front - again supplied with the 93WCS kit.

I believe its also using fine pitch belts/pulleys & the steering assembly with the GRP links is more like the 93WCS than the 94 YZ-10 - which used a belt piece of wire for the drag-link.

Oh yeah - the Schumacher ProCat front bumper & undertray are obviously nothing to do with any Yokomo!
