Cool thanks. We'll I'll be running a Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 with a Orion/Peak V2 13x1. I have a gear chart with final ratio on, so if I can get a rough idea of the overall ratio I'm aiming for I'll buy the pinion that best matches, and 1 above and below just to have a choice.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out with the gearing question. Just saves me having to spend a small fortune on loads of pinions for the first meeting

He means they will be wild indoors!!!

At Caldicot I was on the brakes the instant the stick hit full throttle with a bonded 6.5 in the RB5 ...... sure the car would have been faster round the track with the 19T Gaz was running or something like a 10.5 sintered .....

Indoors, 13x2 is probably as hot as you want ..... used to use a BRM (awesome motors by the way) 14x3 indoors.

Casting my mind back I ran 8.24:1 on a 13x2 in my Pred and 8.6:1 I think in the Mako.

Working on that and the ZX5 having a 2.5:1 internal ratio and 78 tooth spur that would put you in 23t region.

Now bear in mind that was with 3300s (back in the day) and BRM motors which as Glyn often reminded us needed "gear tit oopp" so ended up about 3 teeth higher than something like a Reedy of the same wind. Based on that I'd suggest starting on around a 20t or 21t pinion and seeing how the motor is performing.
So long as it's punchy and not too hot after say 2.5 minutes of running I'd continue for the full 5 mins in practice and then look at it's brushes / com .... if they are still the right colour your not far off.
If it's more than warm after 2.5 minutes then I'd stop and change gearing, that is how I used to do it. If it was sluggish and getting warm at 2.5 mins then I'd go down 2 teeth ..... if it was crazy punchy and hot I'd go up 1 tooth ... repeat till you find the best gearing for that motor ...... BEWARE .... IF YOU GET IT TOO FAR OUT YOU'LL COOK THE BRUSHES OR WORSE!!!

Once again, thanks a lot Roger. I'll start off with just one pinion in that case, a 20 or 21, and work from there. I'll speak to Marc and ask him to bring pinions with him, so I can just buy what I need then.

Awesome thanks. I've already asked Marc about Lazer stuff, and he's seen my rallycross driving.... so no doubt will take everything breakable, safe in the knowledge he will get good custom from me!

Wow I'm nervous yet also can't wait for this race now

I think the sintered bit is the important part .. my bonded had zero brakes!!!

Andy ..... it's only up the road for you ... ok that may be most of the length of the M4 but it's just one road away ...

Probably me being a little bit slow .. not woken up yet ... but can you please clarify these points please;

1) I assume we need to provide our own table / chair?
2) Will mains power be available and if so will we need to bring our own extension leads? (Health and safety legistation says all trailing leads must be taped down to avoid trip hazards ..... sorry for being boring but a bit off gaffa tape is a small price to pay for mains power!)
3) What will the practice format be? (heat, open, peg board .... public brawl)
4) What are the rules and local availability of food / drink etc.?
6) is there a blast proof cabinet we can charge cells in ....

Really looking forward to it now.

That settles my mind a bit. Thanks roger.

I'm running a 10.5 Nosram Bonded, and was a bit concerned that I would be far too underpowered.

Have you spoken to Marc at MK? He said he should be getting some today so worth checking - if so he should have them there with him Sunday.

Hi Nick,

Spoke to Mark, but he has got a problem with the 4wd fronts from Schumacher.

I`ve just managed to buy the last set of fronts from Harlequin.
