difference between X2c and Mad Monkey

i was looking through the catalogue and was wondering what is the difference between the X2c and the Mad Monkey, i am interested in a mid motor buggy and wanted to know whether it is worth spending the extra money.

The x2c is slightly wider, has aluminium shocks, proper set of turnbuckles with adjustable nuts, the plastic is supposibly better and I think that the internals of the gearbox are upgraded

X2c has better shocks ball races and the monkey dowsnt have ballraces it also has stic pack chassis ..there may be more diffrences but think there main ones

Wrong - the X2C is narrower taking saddle packs side by side (so the weight is very slightly further forward) - the monkey takes stick pack full length widthways.

i currently have a few stick pack of lipos so is it worth just getting the mad monkey and upgrading the turnbuckles, shocks and ball racing it. I did that on my mad rat already and did notice a difference.

if you want to continue using stick packs i would buy an X2c then buy a monkey chassis and motor mount bracket( the little bit that screws to the chassis)

I would do this. I would also sell you a mad monkey chassis however you can pick them up on eBay brand new for £6.50 posted.
That way you have all the upgrades on the car and can change to saddle packs as your stick packs give up.
Only problem you may have is getting a bodyshell unless your happy with the pre painted one.

Or you could convert the Mad Rat which is what I just did for my son.

wouldnt that cost as much as the mad monkey kit and also i would have to get a new shell wouldnt you

on the track there is very little difference in performance between the X2c & the monkey.. me & a mate bought ours at the same time - he got the X2c & i bought the monkey simply because of the battery problem in that i didn't fancy shelling out money for batteries when what i had were useable, plus i already had the rat anyway so the batteries are used in both.

I specced my monkey up with bearings & better shocks (which are the same as the X2c ones) etc, we run the same electrics (apart from batteries & the fact he has LRP & i run the equivalent Nosram speedo - plus i run one of Eric's shells as the kit ones are like paper) & we have about the same driving ability & we are both running pretty much the same set-up.. the laptimes are very similar & if anything i have slightly more rear ended grip with the monkey due to the back end being wider, hence i don't run much weight under the battery & what i do run is smack in the centre, although i am informed if i fitted X2c rear wishbones to the monkey, it would help to eliminate the problem a little as they are a slightly harder plastic so don't flex so much... just waiting for the back ones to break now!

if you already have the upgraded shocks/ballraces/turnbuckles on your Rat then just use those when you build the mad monkey kit.
If you are not keen on the kit shell colours i can highly recommend the concept racing shell and just paint it as you like.
If you dont like painting (like me) the teamC pre painted shells are really nice and pretty cheap and are a direct fit on the Monkey

the pre-painted team C shells, i would imagine are exactly the same as the monkey shells - i.e. they are made of really a brittle plastic that shatters or tears when the shell gets a knock. If the cars are identical (i.e the Mad-Monkey & the TR02C) i'm pretty sure the shells would be made of the same stuff with the only difference being the printed lamination they use for the design of the artwork when stamping them out.

Personally i think the Mad-monkey artwork is a nicer job. The Team C shell looks like some kid has gone mad in art class!

And with Absima and SMD distributing those that means official clear bodies for the monkey chassis

i didnt mind painting my Mad Rat. in fact it was quite fun but i dont like all the shouty colours in a flame. My mad rat has a very simple yet effective yellow and black paint scheme which the first time out it attracted alot of positive attention from guys who had been racing along time, plus the advantage was you could easily see it a mile off.

as you can see this is what i made and it was my first attempt at a shell
