Having just acquired a ZX5, I realize the setups above are all... removed?!
I used to hang around with a 1989 ZXR MKII since new (!) but lately its spares are getting harder to find...
I realize I'm reviving a very old thread, but I hope there is... hope?!

Default ZX5-SP damp astro / multi surface base set-up

Here is what I am (at least for now) going to use as my base damp astro / multi surface set-up.

Front

Shocks;

2C pistons 30wt (AE)
Losi silver springs
mid mount on wishbone
mid mount on tower

Ride height arms just below level

Camber link mid on bulkhead, outer on upright .. no washers @ either end
-1deg camber

10deg castor blocks, #2 above front arm mount (LAW31)

1mm spacer under ballstud on steering arm to limit bump steer with the 10deg blocks

0deg toe

Kit ackerman

Rear

Shocks;

2B pistons 25wt (AE)
Losi pink springs
mid mount on wishbone
mid mount on tower

Ride height arms level

Camber link inner on bulkhead, outer on upright .. no washers inner, kit 2mm outer.
-1deg camber

#2 under front arm mount

kit 0 deg uprights

2.5deg toe (A25 block)

Cells forward

Novak 5.5R geared 19/78 Sphere setting 2-2-0-0

shaft one-way, diffs just tight enough not to slip both front and rear ... slipper set so as to just give on highest grip section of track.

Ballistic Pink Mini spike, not cut, with DC Racing light blue foams (JC Losi fitting wheels front and rear .... Poline axles for rear and machined front hexs to allow fitment)

The car was easy to drive but maybe a little nervious for some tastes (in which case 35wt oil in the front would help calm it down a bit). Can be thrown around and will not bite.

If dry try Ballistic buggy green mini spikes and if then becomes twitchy then go to 35wt front oil (40wt if too nervious). If grip is higher consider Losi Green front springs and Losi Red rear springs.

Default ZX5-SP set-up sheet modified to show King Pin Ballstud

I have just modified Billy Caldwell's SP sheet to include the king pin ball stud I seem to be running everywhere now.

The sheet is a blank JPG ...... All credit goes to Billy .... I didn't make this sheet!!!!!

Default Base dry astro / Kiddy set-up

After much playing I have arrived at this as a base set-up for dry astro, seems to work everywhere but was worked through at Kidderminster.

This will give the car a lot of steering and it will work better the harder you push ....

Guess I'm the first person to bother to look at this ZX5 setup sheet - it's unreadable! Any chance of posting the info in text instead, or resizing the image?

Hi guys,

Just came back from the Players where I've done a lot of setting up on the FS and finally got the car about where I want it to be. Here's my final setup which was giving me laptimes similar to the guys i'd normally be racing:

Front

Shocks : 3B pistons, 40W oil, inside on tower, middle on wishbone, cap unscrewed 3 turns
Turnbuckles : inside on hub with 3mm spacers, outside on gearbox with -1mm spacers (lower ball stud)
Hubs : 7°, spacer at the bottom, 3mm bump steer with normal ball studs (actually tamiya ball nuts with a screw coming from under the knuckle so it doesn't strip), 1.5mm for ackermann
2mm under front suspension block
Front diff

Rear

Shocks piston 2 holes drilled at 1.5mm, silver springs, out on tower in on wishbone
turnbuckles : outside on hub with 2mm, middle on gearbox with -1mm (same as front), UM519 hubs (or actually std suspension graphite hubs on top hinge pin hole, which is exatly the same).
1mm anti squat, short wheelbase, 3° toe in, silver driveshafts, rear 1.2mm ARB.

No dam on wing, 4° angle, mid position on the tower.

That's about it, car was getting good finally, was an absolute dream to fly it, it'd take the mega jump and land it spot on (unless i'd overcooked it and overshot the down ramp but that was the same for everyone) every time.

Many thanks to Adam SKELDING for his setup help all the week end, Nathan Ralls for his previous help and RogerM for pointing out the difference in the rear hubs !!!

Panch,

I've been chatting to Rich and if he wants me too I am more than happy to go through the set-ups on the FS with him face to face with the cars in front of us. I can explain everything Fab is doing as he and I are in regular communication.

As far as I am aware there is no set-up sheet for the FS as yet but in the main the SP sheet is usable!
